Top Gun cheat code-how to?

Okay, I'm trying to help my son unlock some of the levels on his Gamecube Top Gun game. I've seen several sites say to use the word "shpongle" as a name and will unlock levels and planes. I've tried using this several different ways and still no luck. I've tried with memory block in and out, saving and not saving. Does anyone have any insight how to do this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you apply the code correctly? Is cheat-mode enabled?

Don't know what you mean by cheat mode enabled. I have almost nil experience with this just helping out my son. Do I need a game shark or something else? The website just made it sound like you inserted the word shpongle when you got to the "name" screen.

Well, unless the game itself has a 'cheat mode' where you can insert these codes, you obviously need a Game Shark or another cheat enhancer. I believe this 'name' screen you are speaking of is just to place a name you want to go by during the game. Try looking for a 'cheat mode' screen in the options menu, if you find one, insert the code there.

:swear: There is no cheat mode. You do it just as it says. The code does not work!

Then it could be that you need a cheat enhancer such as an Action Replay or GameShark.

there is a gameshark for GCN.
even if its not like the PS2 or XBOX, it may be a controller or memory card. All it does is hack into games. there are millions of devices like it.
