Valve Hammer Editor Help!!

I play Counter Strike over Steam. I have a map editor made by Valve, the people who made Half Life. C.S. runs off of Half Life, and I'm pretty sure that in the editor help file, it said that you can make maps for C.S. I want to know how to open/edit existing C.S. multi player maps in Hammer.

Are the two even compatable?
