Good tut on how to fix your PS2, if you get the annoying errors. It works, I tried it:)

Take note of the warnings, if your not patient and gentle you'll break it, and there is no point in doing this if your Ps2 is under warranty.

Ahhh, a way to get rid of the dreaded DREs...There are other ways to get rid of them without breaking into your PS2. However I have never tested these ways because I don't get DREs yet....I think they'd work though because I got them from the OPM magazine. (Official Playstation 2 Magazine).

Method A- Apply rubbing alcohol to a lint-free cloth then clean the underside of the disc you are putting in your PS2, moving it in a straight motion from the centre hole downwards.

Method B- Load your PS2 without a disc and then wait until the main browser is displayed. Press Triangle and then highlight 'Console', before pressing Triangle again. Set the diagnosis mode to 'on' (you will need to do this every time you turn on the PS2) and then place the disc in the tray. Basically, this focuses the laser.

Method C - Place your PS2 vertically if it isn't already.

Method D - Attach two pieces of Scotch tape parallel and symetrical with each other on either side of the centre hole (on the top of the disc) to balence the disc better, which makes the disc easier to read. If the problem still persists, try placing two more bits of tape on the disc so that you make a perfectly right-angled square around the centre hole.

Hope this helps if you're no good with electronics!

B and C definatly dont work, i doubt D would work..

BTW I didnt use the canned air i just blew it, and i didnt use alcohol, just clean it with a cotton bud, the main 2 things to clean are the lens[be v. gentle] and the thing that spins the disc's, it will have a hell of a lot of dust on it.

Well, like I said, I havn't tried these. I thought they might work because they came from an the official magazine, not some cheap rip off PS2 mag. Why wouldn't B work?
