No New Registrations at the moment

Our beloved forum for videogamers in the range of 8 to 40 years old is under attack of a spammer that likes to insult innocent people with his XXX products. God I hate it when this people go spamming everywhere.

I am currently investigating if I can report them.

Because of this i decided to disable new registrations for this moment.

If anyone wants to register here, please send an email to requestaccount@cheatingdome.com

Provide your name, email and desired password.

Sorry about this, but I can't tolerate this.

I hope this solves the problem, if not I have to shut down the forums.

Darn, I did not read the part about the forums. I do hope that it does not shut down...

Maybe you can close it temporarily, delete all the accounts, then clean the server of images and things, then start all over again.

It's a Spam Bot? I will shoot it with Legolas' bow if it gets near CD. If you need (I think your better) But I will write a script to stop bots. Or stop people with invalid E-Mails. Well, I am with you all the way Genie. I hope the forum doesn't shut-down. But I can see why you would need it to. I am with you fully!

I believe there is a way. If we can somehow still keep our email addresses, however in our profiles it does not have it, and instead you would have to shift through many links to get it, (Which bots are stupid for) then that should stop it.

Every single solitary button with an email sending would be sent over to a single email, where it would collect all these spam. Instead of having a button to email someone, you would jsut display the email. That way, the bot only clicks on the "send a email to..." button, and that would lead it to spam only one email account set up to hold all this.

A quick update on this...

I found out that the new version of vbulletin can do image verification.

I already activated it for thegenie.net forums
http://www.thegenie.net/forums/register.php since it is version 3.0.0

CD forums will be soon upgraded because of these spammers.

I will do this soon, at this time, new users may register at thegenie.net if they like.
