My operating system is Windows XP Professional and I have Norton Antivirus 2003 and Norton Firewall 2003 installed on the computer.
This has been happening for sometime but when I go on some websites with links on all I get is a blank web page and I think it has something to do with Java Script and Notron.
To get around this problem I have to copy the shortcut, click the link and then paste it into the web address bar on the blank page to get it to show the information on page.
But for example when I click on Get More for the Smilies on CD when posting a new thread or replying all I get is a white blank box with no web address bar.
At the moment like I have already said I think it has something to do with Norton Antivirus and Java Script but I am not sure. The only thing I have tried is turning of the script block but that had no effect so any help would be appreciated.

I think I am a little late, but you might want to try and reinstall Internet Explorer.
Either that or it's still Norton Firewall blocking the use of scripts.

Youd have a hard time reinstalling IE. you would need to reinstall windows as its tied into the whole OS. Check norton firewall's settings as it is the most likely to be the cause.

You can do reinstall, just goto this (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1E1550CB-5E5D-48F5-B02B-20B602228DE6&displaylang=en) as I am sure that will update the whole internet explorer as a whole.

Things might be ok soon.
Might be copying my Uncles IE file and java file as he had the same problems as me.
I also found out that it's a well known problem with IE6 because Microsoft no longer hold the rights to Java or something like that. So now you have to download it from java.com also known as the Sun website.
I did try turning of the Norton script blocking and messing around with IE6 options but none of this helped.

Javascript and java are two completly different things. With regards to microsoft and java the ruling was that they cant include their java with windows as users are meant to have a choice. I think it goes a bit more complicated than that but im not aware of all the facts

Whats the difference between Java and Javascript?
Javascript is what I have a problem with like when trying to put attachments onto posts that I make in graphics. Also web links dont always work and so somtimes I have to copy the link and paste it into the address bar for it to show the page but this can not be done with things that use Javascript.

Javascript was invented by netscape and is used as a way to interact with the browser, making things like pop-up's appear, because it affects the browser and isnt processed by the server it is called Client Side scripting. Java is a programming language developed by sun, and runs apps across multiple platforms. None of the code is compiled and instead your java virtual machine compiles it for your specific needs (which is why it takes ages for any java stuff to run)
