There was an error for me as well so I copied the image to Photoshop, resized it to avatar size and saved it.

Yes it does but it is set to the avatar limit of 65x65
It should look better when you have it under your user name as an avatar. Try it.

Make sure you are saving the avatar as a jpg file to your computer.

If it still don't work copy the picture to something like paint and then save the image as a jpg file with a new file name.
