well after reading an old issue of the Official Xbox Magazine (sep 2002) i decided to look into modding, so with a little spare cash I decided i'd go simple and paint and decal my Xbox and controllers
at the moment one controller is in pieces and has just had it's second coat of paint put on, when i see the outcome i'll decide wether painting the xbox and other controllers will be worthwhile, and the cheapest easiest and most effective methods
i'm using the following for this test
Genuine Xbox Controller (big 'n' Bulky)
A screwdriver
a sealable box (or ziplock bag)
ESP-Easy Surface preparation, this stuff allows paint to stick to almost any surface... including glass!!
2 horsehair brushes
newspaper
masking tape
Acrylic paint-low sheen white and low sheen Red Glow
how to do it!
ok flip ur control over and u will see 5-7 holes in the back, unscrew these and put the screws in ur box/bag immediately. gently pull the control apart ur X ,B,A,Y buttons will probably fall out, so put them in the box/bag
now we will be working with the top bit of plastic, first things first mask of your Xbox jewel unless u want to paint over it (stupid imho) now lay down your primer coat (for non acylic paints) or use your surface prep liquid (i do not know the outcome of not having a surface prep so ask the guy at the paint place/hobby shop, mine take 5 minutes to soak in then an hour and a half to prep the surface.
now that your prep work is done, crack open your paint of choice (perhaps green for a CD controller?) and if your just doing wat i'm doing and not getting fancy just long even brush strokes, I'M A HOPELESS PAINTER SO I LEAVE THE PAINT WORK UP TO YOU!
I chose to paint the outer parts (raised parts where ur hands go) white and the inner parts (lower parts near jewel and start/back buttons) red
ok once you have put on sufficient coats of paint make sure all of the paint is dry, i mean fully dry! then stick your decals on and take your buttons from your box and put them in their respective places, click everything back in it's place and screw it in... voila!
i am on my second to third coats and i wont lie to you i'm extremely messed up from drinking copious amounts of alcohol last two night in a row, as well as playing skirmish so i am barely able to stay concious and i've been told to finish any projects in progress before the day is out so i am doing so
