View Full Version : Question^^'
I would like to learn how to work with 3d editing programs, like 3d studio max, maya, etc. Now my question is, what is the best program to start of with to learn the basics, but yet be able to create some very good looking objects, scenes or characters?

3D Studio Max would be a good start. As for tutorials, there aren't many on the web, so you would definitely have to experiment with the program itself and/or ask people with experience to help you out.

Maya costs 6,999 US Dollars
3DS Max costs 3,495 US Dollars
Need I say that Maya is the one with the free one and not 3DS Max.
3DS Max is more complicated than Maya as well (so many buttons and useless stuff), so you could get the free version of Maya. only problem is that it has this huge watermark when done rendering, and so unless you are good with healing brush or cloning stamp, it will be on there.
Start off: Bryce or Carrara. They are pretty cheap programs , only one to two hundred dollars, but they also can produce an adequate image...nothing photorealistic, but still good.
But if you do manage to get 3ds Max or Maya, then ask me if you need any help.
(Neto, Anubis, 3DS Max was used in Day After Tomorrow, Catwoman, Exorcist, and more. Do you really think that its a good program to start off with? [Maya was used in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Spiderman 2, and more])

To be honest, yes. It has been recommened by many graphic designers. It is best to be able to handle a more complex program and later move on into an easier, yet more effective, program.

And now we go into the price...:P
I think that Cinema might be a good choice as well if it were not 500-600 USD. It is very easy to use, and it is a photoreaslitic modeler.

No, I haven't gotten anything yet. Am still doubting what would be the best to start off with AND what program could run on my computer without having to wait half an hour before it finally does what I want it to do.
My pc is kind of old and crappy -.-' Maybe I should wait until my dad decides to buy a new one^^'

I wouldn't recommend it, then. The latest versions of most of these programs will not even install in "old and crappy" computers. I'll tell you, because 3DS Max wouldn't even install in my old PC, so I had to return it.

o.O Okay, you've convinced me *patiently waits for her computer to crash so that her dad will buy a new one*...that could take a while...

download 2 programs that do exactly the same thing

run em all at once^_^

Do that, and run photoshop, and create a new document with about 3000 dpi, and extremely high dimensions (100 in. X 100 in.). Do difference clouds to get something on the document, and then put a bunch of reandom filters. It will surely crash, and if it doesn't, then you have one good PC.
EDIT: I just tried the dimensions and res just to see the size, and apparently it will be 251.5 GB. It has to crash on your computer.
