What's Your Favorite Video Game?

Hey everybody,

I recently caught a few ads on Spike TV for their upcoming Video Game Awards (it airs Dec. 14th but I'm not sure what time, check out their website if you want) and thought to start this thread to see who everyone thinks should win the award for game of the year. Maybe we could tally up the replies here and then compare them to which game actually wins that night? It might be cool too to send these results to Spike TV after we're done, especially if our favorites aren't on their list. So I'm going to dig around and try to find a way to contact them too.

Here's this year's choices from Spike's website (if you don't agree, just put down your favorite):

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Rockstar Games)
Half-Life 2 (Vivendi Universal Games)
Halo 2 (Microsoft Game Studios)

Also, what's your all-time favorite? (I'm predicting Super Mario Brothers and CS will top the list here.)

no there hasnt. besides, does anyone else here get best selling charts from every gaming store in IL? i probably dont think so. i do. for the last two weeks or so, nintendo products have been at the top and mp2 is at the top

You might be wondering why I put Chrono Trigger up there instead of Final Fantasy II...and frankly it is a tie, I just like Chrono Trigger more.

Runners up: Street Fighter 2, StarCraft, Donkey Kong Country 2, and believe it or not: Pokemon Red/Blue.

Oh and clonetrooper: Even if MP2 has sold the most games in the past month, weeks or what ever, it still doesnt mean its the best game ever made. I can tell you about hmm...30 games better than it. They might not have sold as many products or had as good graphics, but they are 10 times better than Metroid 2 ever could be and probobaly better than any Metroid Game ever will. I'm not bashing Metroid, I enjoyed the first Metroid Prime game, and I was playing Super Metroid on SNES before you even heard of video games. So please, don't judge how good a game is purely on numbers and statistics of sales.

Half-Life 2 has got to win it. Half-Life revolutionized fps games as we know it, all though the gta series is excellent, it hasnt had the impact on the gaming world as half-life has in the long term. Counter Strike, also a masterpiece, was created over 5 years ago and their are still thousands of people playing it every minute.

In fact i think im gonna play it for the next 8 hours in 10 minutes.

Yes, it is groundbreaking in all of those, and disputably the best game ever made. The fact is, most people don't even know about it, and will never play it or they think it is "uncool" or some crap like that. Most of my friends have heard of it(from me mostly) but cant play it on their computer, and if they could, they wouldnt. For some crazy wacked out reason, they'd rather just play Halo 2, even though it's graphics are outdated already and it's just down right frustrating to control and aim the weapons. I really don't know why...but somewhere in all those 3 years of making Half-Life 2, they forgot to publicize it to the public.

THAT! That is the goddamn problem! Same for the first Half-Life too! Barely any of my friends have heard of HL1 let alone HL2. Whereas when the subject comes to Halo 2, San Andreas and many other CONSOLE games, they seem to know all about them. PC games don't seem to be as publicized as console games. I mean I've seen some adverts for Half-Life 2 on the TV but there's no game footage. Not enough to make someone go out and buy it. Right now, it seems that only the fans of the first HL seem to be interested in the second.
