Yep thats the name of the next handheld gaming system... The Gizmondo is Microsoft owned and with the Nintendo producing the DS and Sony producing the PSP I guess Microsoft just wanted to get in on the act.
So is it going to be better than the DS and PSP you ask?
Well I can honestly say I have no idea but the Gizmondo doesn't just play games it does a whole lot more.
Usualy we wouldn't advertise links on c/d to stuff like this but I think the gaming world needs to stand up and take a look at this.
The main page:
www.gizmondo.com
Lists the stuff that the Gizmondo can do.
www.gizmondo.com/unit
I dunno but I could be tempeted by this Gizmondo... and I don't even like handheld gaming stuff lol
Edit: How many $$ and ££ it's gunna cost don't bare thinking about lol
So what you guys think of this Giz system? :D

Oh man... No way they are going to win this battle. They should learn when not to do something.

i'm almost inclined to go with peppage here... look at Nokias N'Gage, it was a total failure
this has a hell of a lot of potential but it going to cost me close to 700 bucks, which with GPS, games, movies, a camera, messaging, i'm starting to think isn't all bad as i've seen mobile phones sell over 1000 bucks

The name really sucks...They could've thought of something better. :P Anyway, the handheld itself sounds cool, and powerful. However, I have a feeling this might turn out like the Nokia's N-Gage. But we'll see...

If it isn't then who does :P
Anyway I said it was MS owned coz on a T.V add I saw for the Gizmo on one of our many sky digital channels the MS logo was in top right of the T.V screen... I am sure about that but I will check again if ya like.

No, it's not having a name change, but it will be receiving a free downloadable software upgrade that will give it a host of new abilities.
As well as being able to send emails wirelessly via GRPS, an upgraded Gizmondo can send picture messages, and even access POP3 and IMAP accounts anywhere in the world that's covered under tri-band GRPS. As if this wasn't enough, lucky owners will also find that their Gizmondo has an alarm clock, currency converter and calculator.
"These new features reinforce the Gizmondo's practicality," said Carl Freer, Gizmondo's managing director "The emphasis will always be on entertainment, but email is such an integral part of our daily lives, adding this functionality to the device makes it an even more attractive proposition."
PSP vs DS vs Giz.... hmm who gunna win the sales war then.

I heared somthing about the Giz hitting the UK shelves at the same time as the PSP and DS but nuthin is for certain. That means it can go head to head in the sales of the other new handhelds.

I doubt it. The Gizmondo seems to have loads of features on it, and this kind of hand-held would take a lot longer to develop than the PSP and the DS.

Well I had heared about it in the past but nuthing was certain about it's future so i just left it and didn't bother. Now it's poped up again and the plans for the Giz are going a head. Even the gaming shops I go to say they haven't heared of this Giz.
I even have a full A4 Page of information on the Giz from a free gaming mag that I get from a shop... the Mag is called Invader. It does say here from the mag:
"Enter stage right the Gizmondo, a system that appears to have blind-sided them all and, with it's UK release this month, it's stolen a valuable march on it's big-name rivals"
^^ I'll be keepin my eye out thats for sure but I very much doubt that will happen
I have no idea how old this Mag is but from the other gaming news it doesn't seem that old. So I dunno all I can say is keep a look out... if it is out this month then when did/does hit the US if at all.... even the Jap sites I go on don't seem to have anything more than i do.

My mate at college said, "so basicaly it's a cross between a mobile phone on happy pills and a Nokia Engage or what ever it's called" just with a good graphics chip set. I got to agree with him on that me thinks...
Edit: Some info i just found.
Microsoft stir up the handheld market with Gizmondo.
At first it looked like a ringing endorsement. After all, the immense Microsoft putting their considerable corporate muscle behind the little Tiger Telematics and their handheld Gizmondo game system can only be a good thing for its fledgling makers.
Particularly when the Seattle-based global empire will be supporting the brand new handheld by providing five of their very own top titles. Five games that will eventually include Age Of Empires, MechAssault and Rare's Mr Pants, along with two unnamed others.
So what do Microsoft gain from attacking PSP? Well, Gizmondo does run on Windows CE.net technology but it looks more likely that someone in Seattle has been reading their Mao Tse-Tung again, particularly this quote: "We shall support whatever the enemy opposes and oppose whatever the enemy supports".
^^ them 2 un named games are Richard Burns Rally and Conflict Desert Storm. As far as I know the Giz is out now here the UK but I havent seen it in my local Game store. I did find out tho that the Gizmondo was meant to be distiputed to the Toys R US stores around the UK so I'll have to track down there website or if somone lives near a Toys R US store here in the Uk then maybe thet could have a look around.
