Moonlight Illusion
© Gabriel E. Ibarra
As I stand on top of this lone hill,
I watch the sun set down,
And the stars rise from their sleep,
Illuminating the new night sky.
Every breath I take brings forth a beat,
That marks the beginning to the cycle,
In which my heart pumps life into this vessel,
My mortal and cold being.
I live inside a cracking shell,
My soul continues to scream,
Yearning for your presence,
To stand right beside me.
I begin to walk down this hill,
Staring down on the dark tall grass,
Feeling the gentle breeze brush against it,
As if the two were dancing intertwined.
Finally, after what seemed a thousand years,
I reached this lake of purity,
That shines under the night’s crescent moon,
And reflects the heavens above.
Against my will,
I stand before my own reflection,
Studying that which I was unable to see before,
As tears ran down my face.
Crystalline drops of water are shed,
And fall down into this lake,
Creating ripples that spread further apart,
Just like our very souls.
I open my eyes,
And I see a familiar face,
I recognize that smile, those gorgeous eyes,
My heart begins to pick up pace.
A smile spreads under this mask,
This mask that has kept me hidden,
I order my hand to perform a new task,
And keep me fear-ridden.
My disguise has been tossed aside,
As I turn around to face you,
Embracing you into myself,
And holding you closer than ever.
But to my own dismay,
It was nothing more than an illusion,
Brought forth by a moonlight’s ray,
And my clouded mind full of desolation.
My eyes remain in a blank stare,
Looking into oblivion,
Beginning to once again feel scared,
And lost in a whirlwind of confusion.
I lay on the ground,
Waiting for the end,
As I hear the Angels cry for us,
My core grows cold and blue.
“Please hear me out,”
My soul cries out,
“I love you, my dear,
And I weep for you now.”
Just as I thought it would all end,
I feel a warm sensation,
And I listen carefully,
As you whisper into my ear;
“Baby, I’m here,
I love you, my dear.”
Just then life flashes right before me,
Gazing upon our treasured memories,
Knowing all is well,
My soul escapes my broken shell.
I see you at last,
I take your hand and hold you close,
As our wings spread and take flight,
We reach for the heavens,
Forever bonded,
Forever in love.

My Promise

My soul wishes to speak,
Its many senseless thoughts,
Something I’m unable to comprehend,
But I can feel deep inside.
I’m stuck inside this glass,
A bottle full of doubt,
I continue to scream,
In hope to shatter myself free.
Piece me back together,
For I am a puzzle,
Looking for its missing piece,
To fill this empty void.
I’ve been meaning to tell you,
I’m sorry.
I’ve been meaning to give you,
My treasured soul.
A gift that was handed to me,
By the holy hands of something unreal,
Something that has learned to love,
Something that has become attached to you.
An unbreakable bond holds us together,
As our wings spread and lift us into the sky,
We are elevated by an unseen force,
And carried on by the wind under our wings.
What is this force we cannot see,
What is this force we are able to feel,
What is this force we are unable to understand,
But we know is real?
Our future is uncertain,
But as long as we’re held together,
And you hold me as I do you,
I promise to love you forever.

My question is not what you think of these, or my writing. What I am asking is, what does it make you feel? How, and why?
