View Full Version : Nintendo Revolution news from E3

A year ago, USA Today unveiled the DS to the world before anyone at E3 got to see it. This year, they've pulled another Nintendo rabbit out of their hat with the Revolution.

This is the Revolution. As Nintendo has already said the system will be three DVD cases high and only slightly longer. Games will be made using standard size DVD discs and as we also already know, GameCube backwards compatibility is confirmed. Surprisingly, the system will also double as a DVD player.

Like the other consoles, the Revolution will be able to be placed flat or on it's side. The Revolution will also be completely wireless with "no visible knobs, buttons or ports for joysticks."

Nintendo is also jumping on the online bandwagon in a big way with "a broadband matchmaking service similar to Xbox Live" and best of all, it's going to be free.

Hearing the cries of some fans about the Classic NES Series, Nintendo is also planning a download service where gamers will be able to download nearly every Nintendo published title. Even GameCube games like Super Mario Sunshine are said to be included in this offer. It hasn't been determined yet whether this will be free or cost a fee.

Nintendo is also being conservative with their estimates of the Revolution's power, saying it will only be two to three times more powerful than the Cube. Conversely, Microsoft is bragging about a 10-13 times jump in power and Sony believes the PS3 is 35 times more powerful than the PS2. The Revolution is planned for a 2006 and may be the last console released.

"It's not all about having 'turbo power,' " Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan says. "It's about what you do with it."

Says Kaplan: "We've built Revolution around the concept of 'all-access gaming,' " a term Nintendo uses to mean the system is easily adapted to by both gamers and designers. "We're about sticking to the soul of gaming."

More about the Revolution, including what the controllers look like, at today's press conference.

AWSOME! i never thought that nintendo would really get serious about making game consols. finally they make something that seems to have a shred of usage other than the intended use. something that we as humans in a technologically connect world have come to so desperately need. finally the big N steps up to its green and Blue counterparts and says, "i am much more than a childish animation." thank heavens!

Wow! I might trade my Nintendo Gamecube for that! If it's the last one,and it's coming out in 2006,it's gotta be good. This is gonna be my 2006 birthday present........if it comes out on June 30th. But this system is gonna rock! I respect Nintendo. I'll see if I can find some more info, later.

Simple answer is no! He just went into more detail about the features of the new console and other stuff that Nintendo are doing next year. He made his thread after me as far as I am aware.

Well looks like will have to wait until 2007 now to find out if the Nintendo Revolution is any good. Looks like they know there on the back foot again in terms of Hardware spec.... *sigh*

In keeping with tradition, Nintendo is to once again make its ever-loyal European fans wait the longest for new hardware according to an unnamed source from within Nintendo.

Speaking to UK trade rag MCV, < :D ;)

the informant, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that "Revolution will launch towards the end of next year. "We're currently looking at mirroring the DS strategy," the source continued. "So Revolution would release in the US in November, closely followed by Japan - then we're looking at March 2007 for PAL territories."

This will come as a major blow to any long-serving European Nintendo fan, especially in light of Microsoft's commitment to an unprecedented worldwide release this Christmas. Adding further salt to the wound is talk (again from MCV) regarding the possibility of a September 2006 European release of PS3 with the company now determined to get the machine out in time to capitalise on the 2006 Christmas rush.

i hate that coz you get revved up for something then when it gets realeased theres a way better thing about to come out and it then turns into a vicious cycle

Yeah, my love for Nintendo is rekindled. My Gamecube is going to be sold A.S.A.P, then I just need to think which is going to give me the nest deal. Most likly the ***-box 360 will becuase of Halo 3. I may just buy all three and use a spliter to make it so I can run all three on my TV.
