I was reading some Calvin and Hobbes the other day and in one of the strips Calvin talks about why during the evolution of man we evolved with a sense of humour that made us laugh at stupid or disgusting things. People now do disgusting or stupid things and degrade themselves just for a few laughs, so is this a defect in mankind or is it just extremely ironically creul joke from god?

I degrade myself, but I don't do it because people laugh, I do it for fun... o_O

Not all people have a sense of homour. I know a few people who are very serious.

I'll go with the cruel ironical joke from god....meh...I think whole of mankind was a mistake in the evolution...too bad you can't turn back time..
and as for laughs....we demand happiness right? mankind thinks he has the right to be happy...and society just gives you some headlines HOW you think you'll get happy and poof, there we are....stupid and disgusting things....mankind really is selfish..

Nevertheless, you must consider that people have to work to get to where they are. All animals achieve happiness at some point. By the way, turning back the clock would make us Ape-men. For people who are good looking, that would be a tragedy (to them and others, lol), I know a few people who might enjoy being Apes though, lol.

Thanks,
HRBEK.

"...is this a defect in mankind or is it just extremely ironically creul joke from god?"

I think it's both, possibly. I guess maybe it's our way of 'self defense'. I mean, other animals have their natural defenses.

The 'disgusting' and extremely moronic ways might be a way of feeling better when others try to make fun of another.

According to David, we evolved from cats.

Tis funny the way people believe in God. With all religions '100% true' [according to followers], what makes ppl believe that one is valid and discard teh rest?? It's easy to say that tis teh will of God.

Than you aren't a believer at all

I for one think it's a gift from God. Happiness and laughter were given to us and I am glad that they were. Otherwise...it would be a fairly boring existence.

Tis funny the way people believe in God. With all religions '100% true' [according to followers], what makes ppl believe that one is valid and discard teh rest?? It's easy to say that tis teh will of God.

It all depends on how someone interprets the bible, true it may say that there is only one God and it is the one in Christianity...but than you'd be calling billions of people wrong. ON the other hand, it also teaches you to be tolerant of others, even if they worship a different god/goddess/gods/godesses

Since it is proven that faith can be one of the strongest sources of inspiration and source a person can have, even more so than a drug, if you believe in something enough...to you it will be true, so in essence, everyone who has faith is correct in their belief.

Well with drugs you can see Gods, lol. Nah I agree with you there, spot on.

if happiness never existed, then it would be boring, eh? but how could it be boring if we knew no difference? o_O
there could be a form of life that had an emotion greater than happiness and thought that without it their world would be rather boring, because to them, they would know no different. we wouldnt be bored without happiness existing for there wouldnt be any difference =P

HRBEK

For happiness not to exist, than the people in question must live in a boring or unhappy environment. Which would probably mean that people there would in fact feel depressed and would always be hoping for better. Sad, that would be......

but without happiness, yes, they would be sad or whatever but they wouldnt know it because to be happy never existed o_O

It is a natural instinct to look for something better, something special. People, no matter what their environment, know that there must be a better life. That is why both you and I try harder and harder to succeed. We want to live better, maybe education-wise, etc. If you and I know that something better exists for us, than surely, such people would know to be looking for a better life.

We don't know what Dinosaurs look like, but we strive to find out. If you know that something exists, no matter whether you know much about it or not, you will always try to find it.

we just can't believe that life itself is our greatest finding ever...so just keep on asking ourselves 'is this all? it CAN't bE!!'...well I think it is...we're just overlooking the points...life is great and everything you can accomplish is your business, but you'll always stay alive..let us focus on life itself, not on searching for more.. keep it cool and the feeling of 'must...find....something...' will dissapear slowly while experiencing the wonder of being alive itself...

shallow people...caring too much about getting attention or not being able to handle or appreciate the wonder of being alive

That's the point. For them it wouldn't be such a wonder, or there would be no reason for suicide. Though I do agree that they cannot handle the burdens.
