alrighty then! im going to show you how to make a very simple but effective desktop background! hurray!

alright open up photoshop and while it opens press your print screen key, now if you go to new it should come up with your screen res automaticly. if not you can just add them in like you would anyway.

now, make the background layer black, just black.
alright. now get a brush (works best with brushes that look like they are dripping, and dont have too much of a texture over the brush. these brushes here (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/10351757/) are very good. well i thought so anyway...

anyway, make a new layer and startmaking a sort of design with the brushes in white.
i made mine like this:

http://img112.echo.cx/img112/6613/stepa1du.th.gif (http://img112.echo.cx/my.php?image=stepa1du.gif)

now, with both the black background and the layer with the white brushes all over it and go to layer > merge visible or press ctrl + shift + E

now you should just have the one single layer. go to image > adjustments > color balance or press ctrl + B and set the color you want. now go to image > adjustments > veriations and click on the colors you want (make the colors somewhat relitive to the ones you picked earlier)

you now should have something that looks sort of simular to this effect:

http://img112.echo.cx/img112/192/stepb8se.th.gif (http://img112.echo.cx/my.php?image=stepb8se.gif)

now then. you can leave it like this but i thought it would be a bit boring. so make that layer invisible and make a new layer. fill in this one with black and make a new layer again and put anotherbunch of brushes in somewhere (up to you where obviously) that you think best. go to merge visible again and apply the same instructions that i told you before (with all the color balance and variations and that).

you now should have something to the effect of this:

http://img112.echo.cx/img112/997/stepc4wf.th.gif (http://img112.echo.cx/my.php?image=stepc4wf.gif)

now, youll notice that if you set the blending mode to lighten, you cut away half the effects, unless you dont put any of the second lot of brushes over the first lot. so what youll have to do is grab the wand toolhttp://img112.echo.cx/img112/5245/wand6ja.jpg and cut out as much black as you want or can be bothered to do. go to layer options and drop shadow, change the color of the shadow to one somewhat simular to those that youve been using all through this and play with the opacity

after that i ended up with this:

http://img112.echo.cx/img112/2461/stepd9ks.th.gif (http://img112.echo.cx/my.php?image=stepd9ks.gif)

lets hope you did too o_O

now. you can leave it like that again, but i added a quote.. just because i could.

bring up yet another layer, fill it in black.

alright, pick out a quote.
im going to use 'Funny how everything was roses when we held onto the guns.' because... well i dont know but i think its a pretty cool line

add it in the font that you want to use in the image. im using a font called 'angryblue'.

write it in white.

making sure all other layers are invisible apart from the new black layer and the layer with the text, go once again to merge visible, color balance and set it to the same as before.. variations.. the lot.

should look the same affect like this:

http://img112.echo.cx/img112/8369/stepe6qr.th.gif (http://img112.echo.cx/my.php?image=stepe6qr.gif)

on this one you will have to do the same thing as before. either cut away all the black or set the blending mode to lighten.

you should now have something like this, the final product:

http://img112.echo.cx/img112/3048/stepf1uz.th.gif (http://img112.echo.cx/my.php?image=stepf1uz.gif)

\o/

hope you like ^_^
