DO NOT MAKE ANY JOURNEYS IN LONDON UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NESCESSARY

I'm sure you've all heard about this - I won't link a news article 'cos it seems to be developing still.

Explosions at:

Kings Cross/Russell Square - on a Piccadilly line train between stations, there was a flash of light and the train filled with smoke, the passengers were evacuated to Kings Cross. - There are no fatalities as far as I've heard.

Old Street - no details yet

Aldgate - 10.59: over 90 casualties, happened on a Circle line train

Edgware Road - 20 injured, I have heard rumours that there are two trains stuck in the tunnel, others say there are 2 trains collided in the tunnel.
10:55 - I have heard another rumour that one train exploded, and the passengers on the other were petrified becuase they could see what had happened on the other one, but couldn't get out, they had to wait for around 45mins.

Liverpool Street - 12 injured, no more details

On a bus - confirmed to be at Tavistock Square (between Russell Square and Euston) - there are fatalities on this bus, top deck reported to have been blown completely off. 10.08 - I've just seen pictures of this on the news, the roof appears to have been blown off with such force that it is on the other side of the street.

On two other buses - no details yet.

It's claimed that the tube ones were caused by power surges, and the whole network has been evacuated and closed, naturally.

Very suspicious circumstances, IMO, especially with Britain and London under the world's spotlight, with the G8 and 2012.

EDIT: I'm adding details as I hear them, everyone is very confused at the moment though, I don't guarantee their accuracy - the BBC are just reading out info as they get them.

EDIT: Tfl WEBSITE HAS NOW GONE OFFLINE DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC, BBC KEEPS TIMING OUT, but I can now get onto the tube website - 10.51

EDIT: 20 fatalities confirmed by the government - 11.02

EDIT: Mobile phone networks have now been turned off across London, as it is possible that these bombs are being triggered via mobile phone, as they were in Madrid. - 11.07

EDIT: ALL BUS SERVICES IN CENTRAL LONDON HAVE NOW BEEN SUSPENDED - 11.09

Fatalities after series of explosions
LONDON (Reuters) - A number of people were killed in a series of explosions on London's transport system at rush hour on Thursday morning, causing chaos in the British capital, police and transport officials said.

Several blasts hit the underground network and police said there had been at least three explosions on buses in the city.

A source at the Metronet consortium that runs part of the capital's underground network said "there were three explosions and there have been some fatalities".

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said the blasts had caused "terrible injuries".

The causes of the incidents, a day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics and as leaders of the Group of Eight rich nations met in Scotland, were unknown but police said many of the city's underground stations were affected.

"It is too too early to state what has happened," a London police spokesman said. "I cannot comment on reports of bombs, but we have had multi-reports of explosions around London."

People were seen streaming out of one underground station covered in blood and soot. Passengers were evacuated from stations across the capital, many in shock and with their clothes ripped to shreds, witnesses said.

The entire system was shut down and major thoroughfares were blocked off by police and ambulance services.

One bus was blown up in Tavistock Square in central London, a policeman told Reuters.

"There have been some casualties and this has been declared as a major incident," said a spokeswoman for London's Metropolitan Police.

Emergency services rushed to the Aldgate East underground station where police reported the first incident at 8:59 a.m. local time (0759 GMT).

"There were people streaming out of Aldgate station covered in blood," said Kate Heywood, 27, on her way to work.

"There are shards of glass there, it is chaos," she added.

A Reuters correspondent at Oxford Circus station, at the heart of the underground system, heard an announcement over the public-address system saying: "A power outage has occurred London-wide. All train services are suspended."

A station official said: "All the power has gone down. I don't know when it'll come back."

Police sealed off large areas around other underground and mainline rail stations. Firemen donned chemical protection suits before rushing into stations.

Half a dozen people dishevelled and with soot-blackened faces sat on the floor at Russell Square underground station or stood in shock as police cordoned off the area and ambulances crews raced in, one witness said.

The Great Eastern Hotel, which was hosting a conference on the Israeli economy, was evacuated. Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to attend the conference but had not arrived.

Stocks dived and demand for government bonds and safe-haven currencies soared on Thursday after the reports of the incidents.

in my opinion, it will affect alot of things... its was hit during rush hour which stops a lot of people getting to work, it will also be out for a few days to come, which will loose companies a lot of money... also it shows incapability of controlling these type situations for to 2012 olympics...

Police and emergency services have advised people to stay calm and remain where they are, following explosions on the London Underground and on a bus.

The entire Underground network has been suspended until further notice. Buses services have also been halted.

Many trains are terminating outside the capital. The RAC has warned people not to drive in the London area. London's National Express services are halted.

The police will be issuing a telephone number shortly for worried relatives.

Westminster City Council has said pupils should remain inside school buildings and carry on normal activities.

Businesses with teenagers on work experience in central London should ask them to stay within the place of work and not leave the building.

The council said parents would be given information about arrangements for the end of the school day later in the afternoon.

The Met has urged anyone who does not need to come into London on Thursday not to do so.

People already in London are encouraged to limit travelling as far as possible.

The Met will continue to respond to 999 emergency calls but non-emergency calls will have a seriously delayed response.

Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said the London Emergency Plan was in place and the situation would soon be under control.

His message was:

* Remain where you are. London's transport system has been disabled

* Do not call the emergency services unless it is a life-threatening situation

* Listen out for more information from the emergency services

* A casualty bureau will open shortly and a number will be issued

The situation is confused but is coming under control

Hospitals across London have been placed on full alert to deal with the situation, although many patients are being treated on the ground.

The operation is being co-ordinated by University College Hospital.

The Barts and London NHS Trust said over 100 casualties have been treated so far at the Royal London Hospital, 10 of them critical and seven in a serious condition.

St Mary's Hospital and the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust have also received a smaller number of casualties.

TRANSPORT CHAOS

Entire London Underground network suspended

All buses in Zone One, central London, suspended

Liverpool Street, Kings Cross, St Pancras, Marylebone, Euston and Stratford stations closed until further notice

Brighton and East Croydon stations closed by security alerts

GNER and Hull Trains services starting and terminating at Peterborough

WAGN terminating at Finsbury Park

'one' services between Cambridge, Enfield Town, Chingford and London Liverpool Street cancelled

Silverlink trains running only as far as Watford Junction

First Great Western and First Great Western Link services not running into London Paddington

National Express coach services in or out of London suspended

Heathrow Express running and flights taking off, some with extra security

Stansted Express rail service suspended but flights continuing

another 5 died in blast on edgware road
7 died in blast near Liverpool St Station

No available info for the bus blast as such... but I guess it would have been full and people would have been walking next to it on the side walk so make your own numbers of people injured or dead.

Edit Terminal 3 at Heathrow airport evacuated...

America's alliance with Israel which portrays America to be anti Arab etc... Britiah and American troops being in Iraq. Britians close nature to America, which means we also seem Anti Arabic.

This incident affects the entire world, especially Africa, as the G8 Conference has now no driving force (tony Blair who had to go immediately to London) for the debts in Africa. Like its been said above, the economy has dropped, the stock market and sahres etc have dropped...

The death count is officially 38. and 298 have been treated in hospital

Your totally wrong.

Terrorists kill people, that's why they are terrorists. You cant call terrorists an extremist religion as they have no link. If I nuked america tomorrow I'd be a terrorist but im not part of an extremist religion.

All the leaders knew what they were going to say before they went into the meeting, such is the case with any important meeting, whether the meeting takes place tomorrow or in 2019 their stance is the same.

Terrorists are simply described by their name. They cause terror. Not just killing people makes them terrorists, but the fact that they destroy landmarks, but also threaten to kill.

The calling of Allah, is to say God is great. Except they say Allah Akbah I think. I could be wrong. A lot of terrorist acts relate to religious beliefs.

In my opinion though, Tony Blair was asking for this and should have been better prepared.

Thanks,
HRBEK.

i am agreeing to someone who wrote this earlier. They do these attacks due to an islamic religion which states they will be welcomed by god because of killing people. One thing should really be pointed out to them: Since they will probably kill hundreds of people, how will they ever go to heaven???

Al Quieda are just one group that are terrorists. Terrorists cause terror, most of the time by killing. Al Quieda cause terror, mostly by killing so they are terrorists. I could start a group and cause mass terror and I would be a terrorist, but have nothing to do with Religion. tHerefore, terrorism does not have to be connected to Religion.

i am agreeing to someone who wrote this earlier. They do these attacks due to an islamic religion which states they will be welcomed by god because of killing people. US reviews 'avoid London' order

RAF Lakenheath is one of the bases affected
The US military is reviewing an order to its personnel to avoid London in the aftermath of the bombings.
Personnel, most of them from US Air Force units at RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, in Suffolk, have been told not to go within the M25 motorway.

Family members who are from the US are also being urged to stay away, despite calls for business as usual in London.

The US Embassy said the decision was being reviewed, but a military spokeswoman said it had been "prudent".

The US air force said the order had been made in the interests of the safety of its troops.

Defence Secretary John Reid told BBC News he was "trying to get to the bottom of this".

But he emphasised that the decision was taken locally in the immediate aftermath of the bombings, when many companies were telling staff to stay out of central London because of the confusion and the need to leave emergency services unhindered.

Safety 'paramount'

Most of the 12,000 US personnel in the UK are based at Mildenhall and Lakenheath.

"We are concerned about the safety of our folks and are trying to do what we can to protect them," RAF Mildenhall spokesman Matt Tulis said.

"This is the best course of action right now."

He added that the order was also made to give police time to "do their job" following the Tube and bus bombings.

US charge d'affairs David Johnson said it was possible the order could soon be changed.

"They'll be looking at this through the course of the day. I can assure you that the information and the advice that we're providing Americans is that you should go about your business in London.

"You should be aware of your surroundings and that's what we're telling people who work in our building, that's what we're telling American citizens who inquire of advice from us"

In this difficult hour, the people of Great Britain can know the American people stand with you

US president George W Bush

Bush calls for action on terror

Former Tory defence minister Lord King paid tribute to the bravery of US forces.

"I certainly hope that the president overrules this pretty quickly... it's entirely contrary to the spirit the president has expressed as well as the prime minister - business carrying on and not allowing the terrorists to destroy our lives
