ok how do i get explosion onto a smeargle? i thought about doing it this way.


get a double battle with just two pokemon smeargle and a pokemon which knows explosion,

try and take down the accuracy of the pokemon that knows explosion so that it won't kill my smeargle and opponents before smeargle can sketch.

now before i go to this annoying length can someone tell me if the theory is corect here?

assuming explosion misses all pokemon, and i have just smeargle remaining so when i do sketch it doesn't just sketch the new pokemon sent out on my side.

also i tried the ditto trick " transforming into smeargle, then sketching a move i want onto ditto" i dunno work!, did it ever work or was it a myth? whatever it certainly doesn't on pokemon emerald.

Myth. The programmers most likely saw that one coming and decided to build something against it happening.

Speaking of the Ditto technique here, by the way.

I am near positive that Smeargle can Sketch Explosion in that fashion.

ok failing that what if i do a link battle " double" and get one of the pokemon to have the damp ability? will that be enough o actually trigger the move and let smeargle copy it, even though the move won't actually work?

ive been doing some research and it seems my idea of trying to sketch the failed move when an oppopnent has damp will work !!! :P so my next question.

does anyone know a doubles trainer in emerald that uses a pokemon with the damp ability? i haven't two gba's so i can't do it myself.

ok i did it!!! i have smeargle with explosion, for those caring this is how i did it.

firstly i went to the safari zone in emerald to find myself a psyduck with damp ability, luckilly the first i caught had damp!

flew back to mauville, i equipped my party with the following pokemon,
keckleon with skill swap,
exeggutor with spore
smeargle with sketch
flygon with sand attack

first i moved kecleon and psyduck into spots 1 and two, then i batled the double trainers just outside the pokemon day care centre,
first i took psyducks ability with my keckleons skill swap, opponents hariyama fainted my psyduck " not that it matters"

next i sent out flygon, my keckleon then gave the damp ability to linoone whilst my flygon body slammed the haryiama and fainting it.

next i switched my keckleon for my exeggutor and with my flygon continued to lower its accuracy with sand attack,
next move i put linoone to sleep with spore whilst i continued to lower its accuracy.

i did this until linoones accuracy couldn't be lowered further, then when linoone woke up i put it to sleep for a final time.

next i sent out my smeargle " level 5 just hatched" with sketch and my shiftry with explosion.

got smeargle to sketch shiftry and shiftry to use explosion.

shiftry used explosion, linoones damp prevents explosion, linoone woke up, linoone used headbutt, linoones attack missed, smeargle used sketch

smeargle sketched explosion!!! :D

then i used my shiftry to faint my smeargle so it wouldn't gain any experiance/ev points

lol but it worked :) i now have a smeargle with explosion, shame its attack isn't too hot because it gets STAB with explosion :(

so you can copy any opponents attack with smeargle and keep that attack for later??

yeah. that's what sketch does. it's permanent, though. (unless you don't save, that is.)

sketch is a 1 pp move, it copies almost any attack " i have yet to find a way for it to copy memento"

as soon as you have sketched the attack the move changes into the one you sketched with PP at the starting rate.

now if ur an emerald user smeargle can be found from levels 40-49 artisan cave

if you don't knwo where that is thats at battle frontier, take a pokemon which knows surf, walk in a south eastily direction until you see a clearing that will allow you t surf, then surf in a westernly direction until you find the enterence to the cave.

remember smeargle only knows sketch when you find it, and won't learn another move untill.

so try and go for a level 40, or a level 49, also bare in mind that it can't learn tm's " at least i don't think it can"

so if you want to train it ur gonna need at least one offensive attack to enable it to battle before ur next sketch, my advice is use something liek shadow ball when you first encoutner it, that way it won't hit because its normal, but it will still sketch allowing you an offensive move.


just to recap i have been smeargle breeding all afternoon lol

i have two now

adamant/ fake out, ancient power,doom desire, sheer cold

serious/explosion, spore, night shade, outrage

so you cant find it in fire red or ruby

You find it in Emerald Version and can then trade it to Ruby Version and Fire Red Version.

no cos you will faint and then you must send another pokemon out, the move needs to fail so sketch can sketch it, which is why explosion and damp work, maybe something can be done using taunt, i don't know ill experiment,

artisan cave not altering cave

artisan cave is in battle frontier, there you will encounter nothing but smeargle.

How do you get the Mystery Gift and what is it?

In Leaf Green. Fire Red and Emerald you can get it. You go into a Mart and enter the following on the sheet of paper on the counter:

LINK TOGETHER WITH ALL

The man there will then make MYSTERY GIFT available for you.

HRBEK when i go onto the mystery gift option it prompts me to link with another unit, do i have to link with another gba to do this " ill be honest ive never really used this before lol"

Yes you need 2 Gameboy Advances and 2 Wireless Adapters, and yes you can do MYSTERY GIFT with Leaf Green and Fire Red.
