The 360 basic package will cost £209, $299, €299 when it is launched. A more expensive package will include a 20GB hard drive hard drive, wireless controller, headset and remote control. In other words most ppl will need to spend £279, $399, to buy a launch 360

That's simply too much for me, considering the launch games will no doubt be $h!te anyway (most of em are). I'll wait about 6 months and get the the full works for £200 or something when the price drops.

@Security, please sticky?

That's about how much most consoles were at the beginning whenever they were launched, so an extra $100 seems fair for all the extra enhancements.

oh dear... if I pre order the thing I only pay the £279 advertised there even if the price increases.... the reason why I said oh dear is coz I'm very tempted as it's only really £80 over the limit that I was prepared to pay! lol help I forgot to say that the games could well be close to £50 in the UK to buy brand new. Call of Duty 2 is one of these £50 games.

the next-gen console will be available at two different prices, depending on the accessories that are packaged with it. The aggressive pricing will see a 'core system' version of the machine (which comes with a wired controller, faceplate and standard AV cable) selling for £210. Meanwhile a £280 bundle will include:

# A premium edition version of Xbox 360 (distinguished by metallic detailing)
# 20GB detachable hard drive
# Wireless controller
# Removable faceplate
# Headset
# HD-AV cable
# Xbox Live silver membership (which will allow you to access new content from Xbox Live Marketplace, such as trailers, demos and casual games from Xbox Live Arcade)
# Media remote (which will allow you to control DVD playback and music as well as access the controls of a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based PC)

There will also be a slew of accessories available separately, including:

# Faceplate (£15)
# Standard controller (£25)
# HD-AV cable (£20)
# 20GB hard drive (£70)
# 64MB memory unit (£23)
# Wireless controller (£33)
# Play & charge kit (£15)
# Rechargeable battery pack (£10)
# Wireless networking adaptor (£60)
# Headset (£15)
# Universal media remote (£20)
# SCART AV cable (£18)
# VGA HD AV cable (£20)

"With both Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 core system, we're offering consumers real choice and real value," reckons Peter Moore, who is (deep breath) the corporate vice president of worldwide marketing and publishing for the home entertainment division at Microsoft. A firm UK release date for Xbox 360 has yet to be announced, with Microsoft currently just saying their next-gen console will hit shelves "this Christmas".

Nitrous

I was pritty darn shocked by this, this morning!
You'll have to stump up for the Premium Edition to play current-gen games
The standard version of Xbox 360 won't be backwards compatible with Xbox games, it has emerged today.

A representative for Microsoft this afternoon confirmed that backwards compatibility rests on making use of the removable 20GB hard drive - which isn't included in the basic 'core system' bundle (which will retail for £210).

Instead, gamers will have to purchase the £280 Xbox 360 Premium Edition - which is packaged with a hard drive - if they wish to use to the next-gen machine to play current-gen Xbox titles. Alternatively, it's possible to buy a stand-alone hard drive for an additional £70.

While the notion that the core system offers a low-cost entry to next-gen gaming is certainly a good one, it does seem surprising that you won't be able to play your Xbox games on a 360 without splashing out an additional 70 quid.

Well it turns out it's not that bad at all but still... doesn't look like I'll be going down the cheap option road. Get the fully blown Xbox360 not it's little sister!

Eww, now that was a pretty bad marketing plan, in the eyes of a customer.

Well, modders alike will be waiting in line to make a bigger Hard Drive for it.

So far I think PS3 will come out on top.
I mean not being backwards compatible normally is a real pain in the ass....

I mean not being backwards compatible normally is a real pain in the ass....

Why? I havn't gone back to PS1 games since getting the PS2......
+ It's only the cut down version of the 360 thats not backward compatible. I dunno what I'll do with ma Xbox really, dont wanna trade it, will lose money so I might just get some sort of memory card that fits in both of the Microsoft consoles and copy the game data as I would still like to play stuff like Conker Live And Realoaded and Destroy all Humans as I doubt they will be a follow up to either of these games for a long long time to come.

Well I still play games like the first MGS and things like that on my ps2..
It would be nice to re-visit halo1 after completing halo 3, if you know what I mean...

This is of no intrest to me as I live in the UK but still gives an idea of what we can expect game and price wise.

Following EBGames, Gamestop has revealed its Xbox 360 bundles. But contrary to EB, Gamestop.com offers more bundles at higher prices.

You might remember that EBGames is offering two bundles, one with an Xbox Core System priced at $599 while a second one that includes the Premium Edition sells for $699. Both systems include the same titles: PDZ Limited Edition, DOA4, PGR3 and Kameo.

Gamestop has four bundles, its cheapest one starts at $699 (the same price of the most expensive EBGames bundle) but to our surprise, this bundle does not include the Premium Edition but the Xbox 360 Core System. You may ask, why the higher price compared to EBGames offer?

Well, the Gamestop Core bundle includes more games than EBGames' offer: PDZ, PGR 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4 and Call of Duty 2 plus an extra wired controller and a 1-Year Product Replacement Plan.

The next bundle, priced at $799, includes the Xbox 360 Premium Edition, the same titles of the Core Bundle but adds a wireless controller, a Play & Charge Kit and a Rechargeable Battery Pack. This Silver Bundle also includes a 1-Year Product Replacement Plan.

Following the Silver bundle comes the Gold Bungle, which costs $899 and adds an aditional title, Kameo, and a 12 month Xbox Live Gold card.

Finally, the Ultimate Bundle is priced at $1199 and includes 11 titles (PDZ Limited Edition, PGR 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4, Call of Duty 2, GUN, Quake 4, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, Condemned, Madden NFL 2006, Kameo), an extra wireless controller, a Play & Charge Kit and a Rechargeable Battery Pack and a 1-Year Product Replacement Plan plus a 12 month Xbox Live Gold card.

As you may have noticed, Gamestop offer differs from EBGames and at the $699 both retailers offer complete different options. We can't image why a gamer would spend $699 to get an Xbox 360 Core System when it can get a Premium Edition at the same price in EBGames.

Would you prefer the Xbox 360 Premium Edition over missing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 and a 1-Year Product Replacement Plan? Which bundle are you pre-ordering? Sound off in the forums.

1-Year Product Replacement Plan? sounds like there almost expecting hardware problems if you ask me, I'm much happier to sit back and see what happens.

sorry for the unusual double post by myself but is kinda needed

http://www.gamestation.co.uk//images/main/xbox360/xbox360-banner2.jpg

The more expensive version of the 360 (on the left) has a chrome plated disk try cover.... no big deal you might think but if somone trys to sell you the Xbox on the right of that pic with the white CD drive cover and there passing it off as a premium version then don't buy it.

Not likly to happen but could in a few years time when pre owned stuff starts poping up in indepndant game shops....

Xbox 360 will hit Europe on December 2nd, Microsoft has confirmed this morning.

The announcement was made on the eve of the Tokyo Game Show, with Microsoft also revealing launch dates for the US (November 22nd) and Japan (December 10th).

“This holiday season, gamers in Japan, Europe and North America pining to experience jaw-dropping high-definition graphics, unmatched online play and compelling digital entertainment features of Xbox 360 will finally have the chance,” said chief Xbox officer Robbie Bach.

“Renowned development studios around the world are busy putting the finishing touches to their Xbox 360 games. We expect a strong portfolio of titles on launch day and through the holidays that will appeal to fans of every genre and gamers in every region.

"And with more than 200 games currently in development, continuous new additions to the library are on the way.”

Yeah plus the xbox didnt realy sell welll ova in Japan.

I hope they try and turn that around this time, I guess Japan peeps are just loyal to Nintendo and Sony with those 2 companies being Jap based. Being the first next gen machine out on the market could help in that area a little.

Not much news coming out on Xbox games at the min, some stuff going on at the X05 event in Amsterdam but nothing I didn't already know has been shaken out so far.
