Your supposed to mix them up..
Using one filter isnt gunna make it good..thats why we trust our tutorials..

my first sig was like that
What i would reccomend, is adding some more depth to your brushing. Try to use more that one brush set. Create multiple layers, then set diffrent layer styles. Then use color balance to change the shadow, highlight and main colors of your backgorund. Then add an image. You can find some nice ones at gamerenders.
After that, blend your image in by selecting the magic wand tool and setting the feather to 20%, then hit delete. To add a border, make a new layer, hit ctrl+a. THen go to image> stroke,> 3 px black border on inside. then image> stroke> 2 px white border, then set that layer to multiply. There, you have a worthy sig.
