I can't get off of Broodwars, Diablo 2 LoD, and Counter Strike: Source. :D Sims 2 is good, but i'm more of an action guy. Half Life 2 is pretty good. But I also have to credit Final Fantasy (due to 7 and 9), Zelda Oot/MM, even though they ain't PC.

Age of Empires II is great if you are into the strategy games. And there's Age of Empires III, but i havent played it yet. Also, if youre into scary action games, try Doom 3. (if you dont mind gore)

warcraft 3 , 5 years old now but i still love the game
halo , its good blasting 15 people with a rocket launcher
world of warcraft,guild wars,guild wars factions, same but different in there own ways there all amazing games bad thing about WoW you have got to pay

best game for future if it comes out for pc will be halo 2

World of Warcraft

Warcraft III (due to the map editor/etc, it's a universal RTS)
FPS:
Half-Life 2 (see Dystopia)
