President George W. Bush has recently signed a bill into act, stating that anyone caught flaming may serve Stiff charges, and even 2 years of jailtime.

A new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet, you must disclose your identity. Here's the relevant language.

"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

And here is Amendment
47 U.S.C. 223 (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode47/usc_sec_47_00000223----000-.html)

what is you're point on this subject? Is it fair for the U.S to have to impose these stiff regulations?

Personally, i have no problems against this, although i find it a bit tedious for the government to spend time, and money on something so useless. But it stiffens the rules on Spam & Flaming, making things (hopefully) more peaceful on forums.

I don't see it as a problem on c/d forums, but i`ll sticky this for the meantime, as a reminder. Unsticky as you all please.

Yeah, I agree, CD forums HAS been pretty peaceful ever since I joined about two years ago. And today, my Social Studies teacher feels like he voted for a moron. Yes, Bush is a moron at times, he's trying his best, too. But his moronicy level is at an all-time high with this no flaming bill/law.

Invisible Shadow

Suprisingly, he CAN drive, but he and Kerry are presidentially f*cked up.

Forte.Exe
11-30-2006, 01:04 AM
how can you say that about kerry if he never was in office?

Invisible Shadow
11-30-2006, 01:06 AM
If he WAS, he'd be presedentially f*cked up, but since he wasn't, he's just regularly f*cked up.

11-30-2006, 07:57 PM
1. Freedom of speech. That's like, what our country is based on.
2. That's pretty stupid. They can't do that to us. I go online and be like j00 /\/0013! and next thing I know the cops are at my door. What was Bush thinking?

Invisible Shadow
11-30-2006, 08:46 PM
Are you serious? Were they REALLY at your door? And saying that isn't flaming... It's like, a not very easily understood language...

that is probably the stupidest idea ive ever heard. you cant call it illegal when you dont own it. he doesnt own the internet, he cant put restrictions on it. identity theft is different. it puts all of someones money at risk. HUGE difference

Some1
12-01-2006, 12:53 AM
I agree Reaper. He doesn't own it, and he can't make ristictions on it, Unless he plans on buying it, or better yet, saying it is against the law to own the internet. :P

Invisible Shadow
12-01-2006, 03:13 AM
Yeah, no man owns the internet.... Not even.... THE PRESIDENT! And my mom didn't like Kerry because he lies, yet, what presidential candidate doesn't?

Well, Now that you say that yes, I agree. Same thing with death row. It takes Years and years and years for the nation to kill them. I don't get why they don't just take them in a exacution room and shoot them that way we can save our money for more important thing like the PS3. :P

What I meant about the prison month thing.....You don't want to know. Or do you?

Hmm, yes yes. Pointless rules. His second term is coming to an end pretty soon, hopefully at least. Billions are spent on prisons and for the wellbeing of our country's criminals. Nowadays people commit crimes just to get into prison for the food and roof above their head.

I understand you're all a little close-minded, but I highly doubt this is for any simple case of "flaming." There are times in which people are harassed to the point of being scared for their life. There are predators out there that do this. They gather information on the person they are "attacking" and scare, flame them, etc. At that point, it becomes a bit extreme.

To be honest, I had a time in which someone flamed me on AIM and I never knew who did it. I have a clue, but as much fun as he might've had flaming me, I certainly would've enjoyed throwing this law at him. I don't care for that sort of stupidity. It's unnecessary.

I think you are all (pardoning 1) missing the the actual point of this law. It's not stating a casual case of 'hey you random person **** off' its stating to a more extreme level such as abuse that is recieved in person. Being threatened online and abused by someone you don't know the identity of is infact a problem and if these assholes are caught for it then they should be punished. It can and does affect peoples lives.

I think some of you need to get an idea tbh. But i guess you're all young really and don't really grasp the point.
