Yeah, none of my other games for my PS2 work except Soul Caliber 3. Every time I try to load them to play them, I get the disc read error message. Is it my games or my PS2?
I've had the PS2 for 1 or more years. I did have to buy it used, so would that be part of the problem too? I really don't have the cash to go buy a new PS2, and I sure as heck don't have the cash for a PS3 (if there's any in the stores)... So I want to keep the one I have...

First off clean the disks (if needed) and then buy a CD Lens cleaner. Its basically a music cd with a small soft brush on it. I use it the DVD player sometimes as well.

Does your PS2 make any noises or anything?? When its trying to load a game?? My PS2 went and it would sit and grind and you could hear the gears and wouldnt load games. I had to get a new PS2.

No, it doesn't make noises except for the air coming out of the air vents (but that's normal)... So, that's fine... I'll try getting that CD Lens cleaner and cleaning off any disks that need to be cleaned soon... (How soon, I dunno... I just know that I need to rebeat Kingdom Hearts 2 for the 2nd time... x_x)

as they do...
sounds like you just need to clean it up with a lens cleaner like nitrous suggested.

So you traded it without trying a lens cleaner that would have cost you about $5? (if that) Oh well the lens was probably shot anyway if it was a used system so it doesn't really matter now anyway I guess.

i know what the problem is, its a manufacturer fault with the early ps2's it happened to mine after 8 or so years of having it for some unfortunate people it happened days after buying thiers brand new!! , after a couple of years it wouldnt play music cds, i didnt think anything of it, then dvds wouldnt play niether would ps1 games, then discs with purple bottoms, and finally normal ones wouldnt play, its to do with the laser arms and the laser alignment i managed to fix mine myself but then it went wrong again so just got a new one this xmas. but sony were taken to court and forced to fix them for free but i dont think they do anymore :( sorry for the bad news, but your better off buying a new one anyway... 100pounds for new ps2 or 80+ for repairs... just like to add that the slim line ps2s dont have these problems, but if you decide to use the guide link and take your ps2 apart make sure your careful

Mine wasn't new though... It was a used piece of crap.

Yeah... It was used (as I've said before). The GameStop I went to just checked to see if the game system worked properly. They didn't even test it to see if it played any games. :P
