Its being released on both Consoles, which makes financial sense for Square Enix. I for one am glad as it has saved me spending £300 on a ps3 just so I can play it. If anything it will help bring a better game about as it can reach a wider audience. This is not the death of Final Fantasy, and I doubt it will die anytime soon. At least it isnt xbox only so you have to go out and buy a new console to play it. It has so far only been confirmed for the xbox 360 and the ps3, however there are rumours floating it may appear on Games For Windows too.
I bet everyone was the saying that the series would die when they moved Final Fantasy 7 off the Nintendo consoles and onto Playstation.

There are also people like me tho who have both consoles and if I was an FF fan I would be buying the PS3 version just because it's known as being a playstaion game rather than a Microsoft game.

It was the same for GTA4 for me. I went with the Xbox360 version in the end because it was cheaper, the online system works better and of course those damn addictive achivement points

It will be very interesting to see how the achievements will work in a Final Fantasy game. I can't wait for it's release. One of the most popular series to ever exist on arguably the most popular new-gen system. What a great idea.

I have a feeling that the ps3 version will be the best and most consistant with the rest of the series as it will remain the same localisation team doing it, wether they will use a different localisation team for the xbox version (as there is no xbox version due in Japan) is unknown.

ok i was exaggerating when i said FF was dead but this news really upset me. for one ps3 losing exclusives is always bad news because i pro ps3 and con 360. and also i don't like the direction the series has been going towards, FF10 was great but FF11 online stunk and FF12's combat system was no good and the story was bland. i was hoping that FF13 would get me back into the series but now that its whoring itself out to the xbox....doesn't seem like something worth $60

They are not whoring themselves out to the xbox. You will notice in their core market (Japan) they are only releasing on ps3. They are optimising their revenue stream, you aren't much of a company if you don't do this.
The way the market is heading you will see less and less platform exclusives.

I agree on 12's combat system being horrible compared to old ones, but they were trying something new. While I myself have never played 11 I know a few people who do and still enjoy it immensely. I am sure they wont be missing out just because a few people wont buy it.

GohanX: What they say will happen and what happens can be two completely different things. As they are a publisher themselves and wont be relying on a third party then they have more control so its more likely to be true.

You can't truly be a FF fan if you refuse to buy it just because it is, once again, expanding to another system because if you think about it FF has made appearances on all major game systems since gaming at home became possible basically :P.

And by the way, the battle system is suppose to be a cross between FFX and FFXII systems.

Redgore: That's absolutely true Redgore. All I can go by is what they tell sites such as IGN and wait for updates. I was just relaying the information I found on the subject.

I don't get the RIP. Final Fantasy died a little when Square-Enix was formed.

I will have to do a lot of research before buying FF XIII.
I played FF XII, it was fun and all, typical FF, but my god, the story and especially the characters were the weakest i've ever seen.

You could've completely removed some of the characters and the story wouldn't suffer from it. I don't even remember their names, take that young girl from the start that's supposed to be your childhood friend or sister or something, no one's gonna miss her.

So I hope they learned from that and start focusing on the story again like they did in the older Final Fantasy's.

I didn't complete the game entirely myself but I thought it was interesting. The story and characters did seem a little dry and some of the bosses and fiends were kind of too powerful. But I'm sure they won't let us down with FFXIII.

The thread title is innacurate. It's not RIP final fantasy, it's RIP Sony.

FF13 would have been probably THE reason to get a ps3, but now that it's multiconsole there's no reason to get it anymore.

Basically Sony and Nintendo switched places in this gen's console war.

I personally enjoy FFXIII, tis a nice change from the standard turn based standing still kind of fight. Tho I have to admit it seemed to lack alot from some of the classics like FF7/8 and the NES/SNES versions of FF.

As for the next FF, I'll prolyl go for the PS3 version myself, mainly for the fact I enjoy Sony more so than Microsoft. I guess itz just a personal preferance for me to have my RPGs on a PS lol. I do however prefer the 360 for FPS and the like.

The combat system in FF XII was a lot of fun, no doubt. it was very fun to experiment with, I even made this auto-lvl build haha.

The fun thing was that battles were no longer so annoying and repetitive. You could just hold the walk button and your party would do the battling, it rocked!

Final Fantasy X was the first FF game i had ever played to be honest with you guys and i absolutely loved it. I got when it first came out in 2001 or 02 i think. I loved it so much that i would play my first save over and over again. I didn't actually decide to beat it until last year:P

Now i enjoyed FFX-2 because I liked FFX's story so much. The battle system wasn't all that bad, even though i like the turn based system the better. I went back and played earlier FF games and I liked them all. In my opinion Final Fantasy hasn't died at all and I'm sure FFXIII will show that it hasn't. To say that Final Fantasy died because it expanded to 360 is kind of a joke. If anything it will be more popular because now more gamers and fans of the FF series can play and enjoy it. I mean we've seen FF on Gamecube, Gameboy, PC, and other systems and everything turned out fine.

FF X was great, I agree, a very good game, it showed that they could still make a very good and long FF Game.

FF X-2 was terrible though, I agree that the combat was fun because it was different and a lot faster, attacks were made almost at the same time by your 3 party members.

But the fact that it was all girls, and had such a horrible storyline and character development really made it a bad game. Yuna was the only one with a decent reason to be in it, the others were just side kicks, especially Pain that was never shown in FF X suddenly popped up and it wasn't even explained in flashbacks or anything how they met and stuff, that would've been a lot better.

Where FF X ended should've been the ending point, it was an open ending yes, but it was a good ending, FF X-2 made it worse in my opinion.

So after FF X-2 came (not counting XI, since it's online) XII, and again, the combat was improved loads and in an awesome way, but again, the story suffered and so did the characters and the character development.

So as things stand now, FF XIII will have one of the best combat systems ever, but will suck in story, as much as I love combat I think Story is what the FF games are all about, just look at the older FF's.

To me, FFX was the perfect game, I have never played a game to better it and prob never will. I didn't like the combat system in FFXII to the point that I literally didnt play it for more than MINUTES. Just hated it. Totally because of the combat system. I've been trying to get FFX running stabily on my PC for ages via emulator, but it keeps crashing at the same point. ='(

I haven't read much about FFXIII, except there are 2 of them, but I hope it's a more turn based battle system.

And PS - PS3 owners still get Final Fantasy Versus XIII which xbox'ers dont=p

This might be a little obsessive, but I most definitely wouldn't mind seeing and playing a remake of FFX. It's arguably the best FF game ever made as far as the story, soundtrack, and general gameplay go. I wouldn't say the FF has any making up to do, but i am eager to play FFXIII

I agree that FF X was a good game, the story wasn't all that superb, quite predictable but it was fun nonetheless I agree, but nothing compares to the earlier games.

I've said it before and will say it again, if the PS3 ever remakes FF VII, no matter how great or awful it becomes, it will sell tons of PS3's, even I would finally buy one, no matter how crappy the remake turns out to be, and so many people would do the same.
