Last year, we received CoD 4 and it consumed our lives for months. It was nice to finally take a step into modern times. So when we heard that the new CoD would be back in WW2, many of us groaned and whined. But I will be completely honest and say that I was very wrong. World at War has to be the best World War 2 FPS out now. In the story you switch between two soldiers. One is fighting with the Americans in the Pacific Theater against the Japanese whereas the other is Russian who is helping his comrades to take the battle back to Germany.

World at War is the first CoD game to end the numerical cycle. So if you call it CoD5, shame on you. It is also built on the same engine as CoD4 but has been advanced. Unlike CoD4, this game has plenty of gore. Shooting a shotgun point blank at your enemy will cause ribs to be exposed. Arms and legs will also fly off.

Once you finish up the story mode you can play through it with friends and against friends. You can also play your standard multiplayer with a cornucopia of options to pick from both the core and hardcore playlists. Prestiging is back but you are now rewarded for it. Ever couple prestiges will unlock another custom class slot and earning 1st then 10th will get you two secret achievements. Many remember CoD4 for having the very difficult "Mile High Club" level that was played after the main story and credits ended. Treyarch has stepped up and delivered a much better award for completing the story and that award is called Nazi Zombies. You can either go at it alone or with up to 3 other friends to stop the zombie hoard from attacking your safe house. There are different places in the house to unlock and in one of them there is a random box. If luck is on your side, this random box can give you the must have Ray Gun. One to two shots from this will bring those zombies to their needs.

Overall I think that World at War is a great game and is on the same level as CoD4 if not a bit higher. But different people like different times. If you like flamethrowers and getting dogs to take down your enemies, then this game is for you.

Scores:

Sound:
Suspenseful music on top of distant gunshots make you feel liek your in the war. Your teammates characters actually tell you where the enemies are currently at online which makes it easier to flank them without a Recon Plane.
SCORE:10

Gameplay:
Being able to play the story with or without team mates, online multiplayer, and nazi zombies are what you have to keep you fighting in the most devastating war of mankind history.
SCORE:10

Graphics:
Improved looks over CoD4 and adding in the gore makes it better. Nothing like seeing a headless zombie with blood spurting out of the neck coming at you for your flesh.
SCORE:9.5

Presentation:
You are set back in World War 2. You are either taking the fight to Germany or stepping into the rarely used Pacific Theater. This alone makes this a World War 2 game different from most.
SCORE:9.5

Overall Lasting Appeal:
World at War is one if not the best World War 2 games. Every aspect of the game makes you feel as if you are right in the line of battles. With co-op and competitive story mode, online multiplayer, Death Cards that need to be collected, and Nazi Zombies, this game is a must buy and like CoD4, you will probably be playing it for months if not years.

Overall Score:9.8/10
What I Think:Must Buy
