On one side, you could say that Sony and Microsoft are money hungry spanners. On the other you could say that just due to cost effectiveness they have allowed themselves to add more hardware and drop the prices.

Surely it would have made more sense initially to have found a middle ground and settle at that, dropping prices accordingly when more people are buying it and they are manufing it cheaper.

To me it's just annoying, why the hell has there been 40gb, 60gb, 80gb, and 160gb versions of the ps3 and 4 other versions of the xbox. i know of course they have some added features which are bollocks. removing the backward compatability of ps3s was seriously annoying for me. Like the EU versions initially had a software emulator on the machine afaik so why is that removed now?

Even if it were hardware, I do not think I'm getting any value for money from my ps3, it's a 400 euro box that plays games which are overpriced themselves.

I wonder how much different Sont and Msoft are selling the consoles to the vendors for? I bought my 80GB Ps3 in a Gamestop, and the day before they were selling a 40GB vers for the same price (€400).

Well there are different versions for different types of gamers. If your insane, you get the 160G, and if you just use it once in a while and your not hardcore, you get the 20G. And it's all about the money too. I am an insane gamer so i have the 360 Elite, but my cousin on the other hand, doesnt game as much, and he has less money then me, so he's getting the xbox with like 20G.

Sony and Microsoft are as bad as each other at the moment with all the different versions in hardware spec's. Why not make one (maybe 2) and stick with that for at least 5 years.

I have the premium Xbox 360 which came with a 20GB HardDrive, wireless controller and headset. All its internal parts have recently been replaced by M$ tho after the RROD. The HardDrive is big enought for me tho so I dont need anything bigger.

My PS3 on the other hand is the 60GB model which plays PS2 games. I have enought space left on that but its easy to upgreade with a 320GB harddrive like this one if I needed to.

Download *****s need it.

Definitely. My friend who has the 80GB version has already filled it to near capacity.

I was just recently given the PS3 160GB as an early Christmas gift. cHilli, I feel equally disappointed and cheated at the fact that the backwards compatibility was completely removed. Not to mentioned the extra media and USB ports. Was there any need? I do not even understand why they do not at least allow us to download the software emulator if it truly cost them that much extra to upload it into the unit before distribution. This could only be explained by Sony's understanding that the PS2 is still selling. I was hoping to have an all-in-one Sony system; instead I get a watered down version of the original 60GB model with more hard drive space.

There is an option in which the PS3 allows you to upload your game software onto the HDD in order to speed up loading times or otherwise completely eliminate them. I believe that is the primary reason, but he has purchased and downloaded quite a few games off the PlayStation Store.

Ok ya, like MGS4 installs itself about 5 times for each chapter, takes up 4 gigs each time. I suppose if you have lots of games it makes sense, I only have a few. In a few years I guess it will be almost all via Steam/PSN/Xbox Marketplace
