So what are your thoughts on E3 so far. Last night was Microsofts press conference where they unveiled some nice "exclusive" (most were mentioned as xbox exclusive but are actuially on PC too).

Alan Wake is looking very polished, the TV show style presentation looks neat. Splinter Cell Conviction is gritty looking and very very violent, am liking how objectives are shone onto the world surface rather than having mission brief style screens.

The major unveil of the show however was Project Natal, the motion sensing camera technology. While some may put it as a rip off of the sony eyetool I think it is going to be something far more. I like the Minority Report style hand gestures that will be making it into the dashboard. I am semi sceptical about Milo which is the tech that Lionhead has been developing for its showcase, it seemed a bit too acted for me.

So what are your thoughts ? The show starts properly today and Nintendo are holding their conference this evening (UK time)

I didn't even know it was time for E3 yet.
I hope Nintendo brings out something groundbreaking. I am getting sick of the let's hold hands games.

I'm still waiting for the keynotes, I hope nintendo makes a new super mario brothers 2

They are now all done. Nintendo announced 2 new games. Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario Bros wii which can have upto 4 players at a time doing a co-op and competitive cross mode. They also have a vitality sensor which they announced. Everything else in their conference was just beefing up stuff announced already, such as motion plus and wii fit plus.

Sony announced what was expected and a few other things. PSP Go and their new online infrastructure for the PSN. Unchartered 2 had some gameplay shown along with some first person shooter which can have something rediculous like 256 players on the same map ( wether this will happen in the real world who knows). There was some new FF XIII footage and some new God Of War 3 footage.
Semi exclusive wise they have FF XIV which willl be online and also available on PC (unsurprisingly this wasnt mentioned by the Sony guy). Exclusive wise a new MGS was announced for the PSP, a new gran tourismo for the PSP and a motion controller wand which works with the eye toy. This motion sensing stuff was overshadowed because of Microsoft announcing theirs first.

Overall nothing to take me away from the xbox 360.

I was pretty much stunned by the trailer of Project Natal.

I was too, until I thought about it a bit. Its going to be interesting to see how well the tech works and gets used by third parties when it goes public.

Sounds pretty good.
But dang it, Nintendo get going already!
I am intrigued by the Mario Bros. Wii game though. Mario Bros. is usually always good. They need to make another game for Luigi.

Natal seems interesting, but a bit too radical
the ps3 thing looks weird...ball of light on the end rofl
and im a bit upset at galaxy 2, as i would hope for an entirely different experience as opposed to more levels of the same

I agree there Steelix.

The Mario francise needs to be revamped.

I was shocked at first about Final Fantasy XIV already being developed, but then I remembered they did the same thing before with XII and XIII. I'm not very thrilled about it being an online game though. I've never played XI but I've never seen Final Fantasy as an Online game. The last Final Fantasy that was "good" was X. The last one that was "Great" was IX. I really hope XIII can bring back some of the edge the older games had.

Also some news that had me jumping for joy was the MGS game for the Xbox 360. Apparently, you play as Raiden. And another note, this was the game that was thought to be the PSP Go MGS game.

That sounds very tight Some1.
I have wanted to see what they can do with a MGS game on 360. This should be pretty good.

Also, I heard some more news on FFXIII. The X360 version will come with multiple discs according to a Square developer.

Not a massive surprise. With Blu-Ray having such large capacity and it being the lead development platform they will have pushed it to the limit data wise. Expect about 4 DVDs full. The xbox is more than capable of hot swapping the DVDs as is shown by Lost odyssey's 4 discs.

Deadpool

Nice. Personally, I don't mind having more than one disc. It makes you feel like you have more to the game.

I agree. lol

There's also a sort of nastolgic thing to it also because the older games like VII, VIII and IX have multiple discs.

I am definitely looking forward to Microsoft's new technology -- Natal. Is this for the new system, or an add-on to the 360?

I haven't looked up a whole lot on Natal. Didn't LionHead Studios have something to do with it?

What exactly is it? Is it like Eyetoy or something?

Redgore
06-10-2009, 10:10 PM
It goes further than the eyetoy by including things like a mic and depth sensing. It will be on the current system, by the sounds of things consoles are starting to have a longer shelf life 10 years in the case of the 360. However I am sure they will bring out a new system before that shelf life ends.

Alot of people are thinking about it the wrong way. It isnt going to replace the controller just offer an alternative.

Some1
06-11-2009, 03:31 AM
The thing with all these new systems are that they can update themselves over and over again. Thats a major reason why we won't be seeing any new consoles soon. But I think when it does to come to that, they will do what Sony seems to be doing with the PS2, they will still support the 360.

Deadpool
06-11-2009, 04:19 AM
Thats what NIntendo should have done with the Gamecube. I know of plenty of youngsters that didn't get the chance to have one, and would still get it today.
Hehe, they could bring back a revised N64 and people would go wild. Same goes with other consoles.
I think what they should move to, is a console that can be updated not only by software, but by hardware. Release new add ons, update hardware like disc trays, ports, all that. And allow you to open up the console yourself, take the old out, and slip in the new.
I guess what I am saying then, is base it on the concept of being able to keep building on a pc. Just limit how often things are updated so people won't feel compelled to have to replace something every 6 months. Limit it to no less then say, a year and a half, or 2 years.

Some1
06-11-2009, 06:00 AM
I've heard that idea somewhere. I don't think it would work though because people don't want to go and spend money on a new hardware every year or two.

Also, Sony is still in 3rd place according to some websites. I would buy a PS3 but first they need that 100$ proce drop and that FFVII remake. lol

Redgore
06-11-2009, 04:59 PM
Sony's year is yet to come. I recon in 2011 they will overtake the xbox at least. I dont see how componentising consoles would work from a consumer viewpoint as to alot it would then seem like its just a PC in a different shell and most console gamers dont want that complication.

p.s. Check out my new avatar.

Redgore, it is so Jedi of you!

Yes, I did understand that the PS3 would have a longer shelf life and a new console would not be released for years to come (which makes the fact that I got it as a gift that much better).

The only way I would upgrade is for a white slimline PS3.

Deadpool

Metal gear Solid: Peace Walker is the title and it takes place right after portable ops. Sweetness.

Nintendo comes up with a lot of stupid sh*t every year. Look at last year and how they had Wii Music. How many units did that sell? Other then that Nintendo's conference wasn't half-bad.

Also, I saw Left 4 Dead 2 and how a lot of people are boycotting it because Valve said they would support the first game with a lot of DLC. Listen, the DLC did come out, and it was free. So if they want to complain to valve because they were doing their job, that's fine. I'll enjoy the sequel in November while their B*tch asses are crying about some lagger in Halo 3.

Something to do with your heart beat. I'm not entirely sure but thats the basic idea. It works with Wii Fit.

It reminds me of the old blood pressure machines that you would find in Boots. Perhaps Nintendo should stop being a gaming company and become a fitness one.

STEELIX
06-14-2009, 09:54 PM
its ok to showcase something for fitness, my mom bought the wii fit, and i'll admit its VERY fun, but the thing is that they didnt showcase anything intresting
1 pic from zelda
super mario galaxy 2 (WTF if every mario game was the same, then we would stop playing them, the reason they are good is taht they are all different)
New Mario Wii (i like this)

thats all there is!
i mean they showed off motion plus last year and its STILL not out...

Nintendo didn't have a bad conference and they didn't have a good conference. I thought they did enough. They had a quality line-up and it was alot better then last year.

If I had to pick a winner for this year's E3, it would have to be Sony. They were awesome. They took everything people wanted and they gave it to them and then some. Only thing that bothered me was the exclusive announcements at the event.

STEELIX
06-15-2009, 02:24 AM
lol, i like their motion sensing tech, but the look of it kinda scares me with that weird 3D globe thing

sony was definately the winner

back to nintendo for a moment though, they had a 2 hour time slot and they left 45 minuits early, i mean seriously, thats including all the trailers and the waste of time announcements of fasion ds games
