Marth v Roy

This was a quite a heated discussion between me (Roy player) and my mate (Marth player). It ended in a 99-life stock match on Final Destination between Roy and Marth.

I won and he claimed that the level helped me. So we played on Hyrule Temple. I hate that level, couldn't catch him and got KOed by midair combos. So we played on Big Blue where I won. My conclusion:

Roy is better purely because his sweet spot is the middle of the sword so he is better at close combat which, Marth and Roy both need to do due to there lack of projectiles. Also this allows Roy to send people flying easier with his more powerful moves (Blazer, Sword Smash, Fire Blade).

Really it depends on the skill of the player. Most of Marths attacks and faster than Roys so if the Marth player can react quickly, he can get more attacks in than Roy resulting in a well placed smash sending Roy away off the screen. As with all the characters, it's all a matter of opinion. Example: I know you like to use Gannondorf. I personally hate him. Far to slow for my liking. I pefer quick attackers like Fox or Shiek to the slow but powerful Gannondorf or Bowser.

What Gannondork? I actually find Gannondorf is a lot faster than some people think. If you use Down + B and Forward + B, they have excellent reach and speed and do tons of damage. Try using those two moves constantly of Event 47.

Also, Roy is just a little lighter and slower in running pace than Marth but his attacks are about the same speed. Sure Marth can attack quicker but Roy has moves that can send Marth flying even on low damage. You can KO Bowser on 1.0 ratio with a combo of 3 Blazers. All I need is one Blazer on some open ground and Marth'll go flying. Marth needs to be quick and clever. Roy just needs to land some moves.

I personally like Roy better than Marth. They both have the same speed except that Marth is just a tad faster. But that's not a good trade off for Roy's powerful moves. Roy is the superior character to me.

I agree with you sonic.when you charge up roy's sword move theres a huge explosion right,but when you charge marth's you see much of anything

But there's no way you'd be able to hit a human player with a fully charged B move because no ones stupid enough to run into it or wait for it to charge fully. They'd either wait outside its range, jump other them or hit R and towards and flip behind, then SMACK! Roys hit. Also, like I said. If either player has fast enough reflexes they can take advantage of counter (down + B) to protect against powerful attacks. It just depends on the players abilities.

this is so dumb, we all know marth can move 10 times faster, and his attacks are almost as strong. no question for me

Zet, you're the dumb one. You probably don't even play SSBM do you? We all know even Fox isn't 10 times faster than Bowser. Racing across F.D. Marth gets to the edge less tahn 0.5 secs ahead of Roy. Roy's moves are just as fast (if not quicker) and do a lot more damage if you total up (5% each blow). Also Roy has moves that KO people a lot quicker. Plus Marth's sweet spot is so hard to get right for it is the edge of the blade and not the middle where it is easier to hit with.

yooooooow koen i am here now 2 i won't be spendin so much time on gamecube forum cos i am a playstation owner but i can talk along about smash bros cos i play that alot at koen's place but i also like roy better cos he is quicker and i don't know how but somehow i seem to make combo's easier with him oh i have one question whats joepjan's forum name

Damn, I didn't know it would be this popular. I should have posted a poll.

Roy's B move can also hit if you edge guard (wait at an edge for an opponent to jump back onto the level.)
