Why do Barb. mercenaries have 2 weapons slots in Diablo 2 Exp. pack?

In Diablo 2 Exp. pack, why do Barb. merc.s have 2 weapons slots, when they only hold one item? They can't hold a bow, crossbow, a sheild, or an axe. What's up wit dat? Mine's got a sword, armor and a helmet. What else can he hold? Help my merc. be all he can be!:evil:
