Here's a guide from my official walkthrough magazine about what you choose in the beggining.

Sword Shield / 18 / 2/ 3/ 6/ 1/ Sword
Sword Staff / 18 / 2/ 1/ 6/ 2 / Sword
Shield Sword / 18/ 2/ 3/ 4/ 4/ Shield
Shield Staff / 18/ 2/ 1/ 5/ 4/ Shield
Staff Sword / 18/ 3/ 3/ 3/ 3/ Staff
Staff Shield / 18/ 3/ 3/ 5/ 1/ Staff

Also, if you choose the top three answers to the questions Tidus, Wakka and Selphie ask, you'll level up much quicker. I hope this helps.

And, F.Y.I. I chose Sword, and gave up Shield. Can't remember the 3 choices:S...:D

hmmm i think people would know that they would have a stronger atk. if they picked the sword though so thats not much help.

i always choose sword and give up the staff

I normally choose the Shield then the Staff.

i choose the sword, cuz u gotta hav a sword! and i think i gave up the staff? i'm not sure though i forgot,

I figure, i been playin FF games for years, an Magic always has big envolvement, and always looks cool an stuff, so why keep a stupid shield? lol.. Don't needdefence if you are strong and are powerful with magic...

when i chose i thought more of a 'warrior' fighting by yourself u need both attack and defence, notime for performing magic if ur in a battle, lol
