C64's and Amiga's rock !! The commodore was a games machine the amiga's were "home computer systems". Amiga still lives on in its OS form which is for mac type hardware.

Amiga was the best system around at the time - and still would be if Commodore hadn't feck things up.

I had my set-up where I could connect to my PC and transfer files to and from my PC's harddrive.

Also, if Workbench (Amiga's Windows) failed to boot, you had an option to start your computer without the startup-sequence, so you could run a program called "SnoopDos", then you'd run the Startup-sequence, and actually see where it failed. Usually you just had to replace a library file, then reboot normally.

The DOS system with much better too. Instead of C: D: etc to could have System: or Games:

So say you had UT2004 (on an Amiga - GOD I WISH). Rather than C:\UT2004, you could have Games:\UT2004. So if like me you have 6 Drives, you can set them up with proper names.

Amiga would also Pre-Emptive MultiTast as standard.

I had emulators for PC (PC-Task 4) and MAC (Shapeshifter v?)

This bloke came round to quote me on some Windows, and he seemed impressed with my set-up. He bragged he had spent £2500 on a new system (PC).

I showed him mine. Workbench 3.1 / PC-Task 4 running Windows 3.1 / Shapshifter running MacOS ? - for those that can't count - 3 System running at SAME time on 1 computer. :):):)

He Windows salesname almost cried - My setup cost less that 1/2 what he had paid.

OK OK, today Amiga wouldn't stand a chance, although I am still a HUGE Amiga fan, I have to admit that.

But in it's day the Amiga was king. Atari did a version called the ST, but it was never a good as the Amiga.

Also, for Sci-Fi fans, Did you know that Babylon 5 Pilot Movie and ALL of the First season where rendered using Amiga's. And the only they changed to PC's was because they couldn't get new Amiga Systems.

Anyway, I had my say. It totally my opinion, I may be in the minority, but, in it day, the Amiga ruled - I wish it still did.

Atari - first

Amiga is back !!! The new hardware uses the PPC (Mac) archetecture so you get more bang for less power but higher price. The new hardware is called Amiga One.

Erm, Are you sure it exists. After Commodore fecked things up, Amiga was bought by a company called Escom. They went bust and Amiga was taken by Gateway 2000, who establised Amiga Technologies.

Amiga One was of there projects, but since that was well over 5 years ago (7-8 years I think). And there's been no further news on any Amiga projects.

I'm now calling you a liar, heaven forbid, but I too heard about Amiga One, but didn't think the project actually went beyond the prototype stage.

If the project came to commercial realisation, I did so on the hush.

I'll check it though, thanks for the heads-up. :)

The new OS is currently in alpha. http://os.amiga.com/os4/ It was being given away for free with AmigaOne hardware bundles but that offer has finished.

First, I have to apologise to redgore for my last post, if you read it you'll probably realise that is was a typo, I wasn't calling you a liar. My typing sucks (Big Time)

I've done a bit of research Amiga One looks pretty cool, well if you're an Amiga fan anyway.

Cheers again. :)

And sorry again for the typo(s).

The Amiga is not a Console - It's a Computer.

I had one running once with AmigOS 3.1 running a PC and MAC emulator
PC Emulator was running Windows 3.0
MAC Emulator was running MacOS 6 (I think is was)

Thats make 3 (yes THREE) computers in one.

And that was on a system with a 50MHz 68030 Processor and 10MB Ram.

Ok Ok, they ran kinda slow - but the point is - they did run.

Also the Amiga could Multitask, PC's at the time couldn't.

Its just that noone had written a multitask OS for the intel archetecture yet, was no limitation of hardware itself.

I've never actually heard of the Commodore until now but I've heard of an Amiga. Some of greatest games started on that...
