Brutal Legend

I'm going to open this thread with one word: Wow.

That one word describes my expression from the moment I started this game, till the moment it finished. Brutal Legend as we all know, is a Tim Schafer game with a heavy influence on the Metal Music genre ranging from Classic Metal like Judas Priest and Motley Crue, to Metal like Mastodon, to Death Metal like Dimmu Borgir, Thrash and even Gothic Metal. In short, the alarmingly large soundtrack (over 100 songs) is nothing but pure awesome Metal. In my opinion, it's the best soundtrack since Saints Row 2.

As we know, this game stars everyone's favorite comedian, Jack Black. Let me throw this out here to help tell you how much I loved this game. I honestly hate Jack Black with a passion. He tries way too hard to be funny it's stupid. Since Tim Schafer wrote the script, I found myself laughing my head off most of the game. Not to mention Tim gave Lemmy Kilmeister (Lead singer from Motorhead) all the funny short sentences and one liners. That is how well the script is.

The open sandbox is very interesting and I must say, as cliched as these two songs are, there was nothing more satisfying than driving around the world in an awesome hot rod listening to Through The Fire and Flames and Tornado of Souls. It's done very well.

Something else that was actually done really well and was something I feared, the RTS segments. There was probably more than I would have preferred, but they were very simplistic and a 6 year old could probably pick the controller up and figure out how to command and create squads. Very well done to not dull gameplay from it's action packed roots.

Last thing I'm going to completely praise is the story. Like I said earlier, I was hooked from the day I popped this game in yesterday, until now. Tim Schafer did an excellent job with the story and never had a dull moment. There was some emotion in each cutscene. I found myself ranging from laughter, to shock, to anguish, and to victorious, in no particular order.

I actually have a question for all of you. Have you ever found yourself obeying a video game too much for no reason than just to play a game? For example, the main villain of a game. Do you kill him/her at the end of the game just because the game told you to? Now think about that. Isn't that just lame as hell? To me at least, this was not the case for this game. It was until the last couple cutscenes in the game. I noticed as my mood went from cheerful to Irate, my emotion went from relaxed to ferocious, and I have never wanted to kill a video game villian as bad as I wanted to kill this one. I wont say why, nor hint to it, but you'll feel the same way if you can let this game suck you into it's amazing atmosphere.

Definitely would play again. Oh wait, I am. Continuing after the end is a nice touch, but I would just watch the cutscenes over again if I could.

Definitely is a must play for you who enjoy a great, well built game and like Metal, or just one of the other. 9/10

Its not somthing I've really been interested in tbh but I may give the demo a try. I thought it was somthing to do with rockband or somthing when I saw the game box cover art and dissmissed the game.... never judge a book by its cover eh lol

I can't say I ever will. Though, I've never really done it before. Though it may look cartoony and corny, as I raved about the story, I am holding off sending it back to Gamefly as long as possible. I'd say give the demo a try, but you'll only get a taste of the action sadly. If that's enough to bring you in, then kudos
