Union Cards
I believe Union Monsters will follow the same path of SPirit Monsters. Most of them will suck, but a few will be very useful. In order to even get an idea of how powerful they can be, you'll have to know what they do. Let's start out with the first Union Monster of the Alphabet, then take a look at some bad ones, and finally some extremely powerful ones..
Black Dragon Level 3 Dragon/Union 900/600 [Dragon/Union] Once per turn during your Main Phase, you may change this card to an Equipment card, and Equip it on 1 of your [Dark World Warrior Dark Sword], or remove it from being an Equipment card, and place it in face-up attack mode. While this card is an Equipment card, increase the Equipped Monster's attack and defense strengths by 400. If the Equipped Monster attacks a Monster in defense mode, and the target's defense strength is lower than this Monster's attack strength, do damage to your opponent equal to the difference. (A Monster can only have one Union Equipment card Equipped on it. If the Equipped Monster would be destroyed by Battle, destroy this card instead.) Dark World Warrior Dark Sword is simply a Level 4 1800 Attack Monster. Now although the aforementioned is one of the weakest Union monsters, it does offer a nifty Trample effect. And a 2200 Trample Monster without a drawback like Spear Dragon is damn good. All Union Monsters I've seen so far have the "Once during your main phase, you may change this card to an equip, or remove it from being an equip, and place it on the field in face-up attack mode." The only reason I can think of that you would want to remove the equip is if you wanted to do a Tribute Summon. Oh, almost forgot. The best thing about it is the equip being destroyed in battle instead of the monster its equipped to. Not all Union Monsters possess this effect though. Now there are a couple of downsides to Union Monsters. They can only be equipped to the designated monster(s) on the card. And normally the monster you would like to equip will have to stay on the field for a turn since Union Monsters have to be summoned, and if it's not Level 4 or lower, that kinda sucks. You can't just play it from your hand as an Equip unfortunately.. But let's take a look at another Union Monster. This is easily the most insane card in the game. Koitsu "This Guy" Level 10 [Fairy/Union] 200/100 Once per turn during your Main Phase, you may change this card to an Equipment card, and Equip it on 1 of your [Aitsu], or remove it from being an Equipment card, and place it in face-up attack mode. Increase the Equipped Monster's attack strength by 3000. If that Monster attacks a Monster in defense mode, and the attack strength exceeds to the defense strength, do Battle Damage to your opponent equal to the difference. This card is just WEIRD! A level 10 creature with, no I didn't make a typo, 200 Attack and 100 Defense. But look at the effect. If it's equipped to Aitsu, it gives it a 3000 Attack Bonus AND trample. This card could possibly be playable, if it weren't for the fact that Aitsu "That Guy", the one it needs to be equipped to, is a Level 5 100/100 Fairy... No effect. Might as well play a Blue Eyes White Dragon with Fairy Meteor Crush. =\ Ok and here's one of my favorites. A truly devastating card in a Water based deck. Metal Parasite Level 7 [Aqua/Union] 1000/500 Once per turn during your Main Phase, you may change this card on the Field to an Equipment card, and Equip it on 1 of your face-up Monsters on the Field, or remove it from being an Equipment card, and place it in face-up attack mode. While this card is an Equipment card, the Equipped Monster cannot be affected by Magic effects that your opponent controls. (A Monster can only have one Union Equipment card Equipped on it. If the Equipped Monster would be destroyed by Battle, destroy this card instead.) Wow. Eventhough it's level 7, Get an Atlantis out and it becomes Level 5. Then you just need a little protection, equip it to a Servant of Catabolism, get out a Messenger of Peace or Bind, and you have yourself a 900 Direct Attacker that's invincible to Magic. It makes just about any card a Legendary Fisherman, cept your opponent won't be Attacking you directly.. In conclusion, some are awesome, some suck, and some are average. But decks can definitely be based around these guys, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these turned out to be Supers, or even Ultras in next set. |
