Go into your hard drive area. Then Programs Folder. Locate 'Messenger'. Go inside the folder and double click Uninstall.exe .

OR

If there is no uninstall.exe delete the entire 'Messenger' folder.

Vefore doing either make sure Messenger is NOT open or running at all.

Thumbs up

Easy way. you got XP right?

Well do this:
Start >>>>>>>>>> Control panel >>>>>>>>>>>>> Add/remove programs.

I had to log on to the admin account first.

Make sure no MSN is running. Make sure you have exited ALl MSN programs. Try again. If it says it again then right hand click on the folder and un-tick 'Read Only'.

Ive tried your way before Lee it doesnt show up. On mine anyway.

Often you may just have to hide the folder like i do. If you sometimes delete an older version of msn then your log-in will screw up.

I am very worried to see most people's way of removing software from their windows computer, Nitrus has the right way of doing it.
Deleting the folder: Registry items for said program still point to old stuff, will moan when thjey arent there., also something in your system may relay on stuff in that folder. This will also happen iof you rename the folder.

If something is running off the folder or rely's on it, it says so by not allowing you to delete. From past experience you can NOT remove it from the Add/Remove Programs tab.

not always. again this needs to be set in the registry and not all developers follow the guidelines, I was talking on a general note, I know there is a file somewhere to show MSN Messenger in the add/remove programs and am lookinbg into it and shall report back.

EDIT
found the info
go Start > Run and type into the box
Code:
notepad %systemroot%\inf\sysoc.inf
and you should find a useful file open in notepad, you will notice multiple lines like
Code:
Fax=faxocm.dll,FaxOcmSetupProc,faxsetup.inf,hide,7
Some entries can be easily told what they refer to for instance my line above is for the Fax entry, look for one which is most like messenger 5 (prolly MSN Messenger or something similar)and remove the word hide, leaving the comma's in place so my line becomes
Code:
Fax=faxocm.dll,FaxOcmSetupProc,faxsetup.inf,,7
You can then save the file and if you open up add/remove programs again you should see the extra program there, if it isnt the one you wanted try experimenting. This works for windows 2000 and XP

The point of doing that is so that it can be removed sanely and keep your system happy.

I an loose, a happy system is a happy user, less reinstalls of windows if any (this install of windows has been up for near half a year when I switched from 98 to 2k all because I am careful about how I do what I do.
