Another New PC

Sony VAIO
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 540 w/Hyper-Threading Technology
-3.20EGHz
-1MB L2 Cache
-800 MHz FSB
-512MB DDR SDRAM PC3200
-250GB 7,200 RPM
-DVD/CD±RW Drive
-DVD-ROM
-128MB ATI Radeon 9200
-Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
-Giga Pocket Personal Video Recorder

Yeah, still going to upgrade that graphics card. This is a new PC altogether...

Sony VAIO

I miss my old PC, for some reason. But if this one doesn't put out like the way I want it within 14 days, I'll trade it back. I also bought the service plan for three years, if anything happens to this thing if I decide not to return it.

For formatting, all I have to do is use the system's recovery and burn up to 8 CDs. =)

Hope you don't mind me posting my opinion...

My computer:

2500 speed processer (AMD Atholon)
120gig hdd
1 gig of ram
XP Pro
Ge-Force FX5900
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1

Here's my opinion...

I wouldn't go with Pentiums, I prefer Atholons. Atholons are supposed to be 17% faster than Pentium 3's. Also...for the XP operating system, I'd get XP Pro, and get atleast 1 gig of ram. Sure your comp might not use 500, but I'd still recommend 1 gig because by the time you got a crapload of stuff on your computer, it might go above 500. Secondly...250 gig drive? Wow...I'd go to 200 or 180. The bigger the HD, the more chances of it failing. So I hear.

Third opinion...I'd get XP Pro, I hear Home edition has a crapload of errors compared to Pro. I think Microsoft made Pro after Home, and made it more stable than Home. Atleast I think so, I'm not entirely sure, but thats what I think. Anyway...thats it.

The 250GB hard drive was integrated, so I saw it as no problem. I will be upgrading to XP Pro soon, as well as upgrading my graphics card. I don't have a Pentium 3, I have a Pentium 4 with HT technology. I heard Athlons are good, but this one beats any Athlon out at the moment. As for the RAM, yes, I will be upgrading that to 1GB. Thanks for the input, though.

What about the Athlon 64 bit processors? With 64 bit software those things are suppose to be awsome.

Those are great, believe me, I considered it, but this one is only surpassed by the RS70 series.

Athlon 64's are great pieces of kit wether using 64 or 32 bit software. However it means a whole new mobo so anyone who like me would like to upgrade from a basic athlon to a amd64 we need a new board aswell as the new processor.

AMD's model structuring has changed recently, gone are the Athlon XP's and Durons and in come the sempron as the only 32bit chip and the XP 64's and FX's for 64 bit.
