Good News: Massive specs not needed

'The good news for gamers is that the title does not seem to need an awesomely powerful machine to run on. Early reports suggested that many players would have to upgrade their machine to cope with its graphical demands.

The BBC News website test was run on an 18-month old desktop PC that has a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4, 512MB of Ram and a 128MB video card.

With this set-up the game ran very well, looked almost as good as it has done in the teaser videos that have been circulating.'

even if you can play it on those mediocre graphics, dont. thats half of the whole experiece. Even if it means coughing up $150 to upgrade your rig, your going to have to do it sometime if you want to play games, why not do it so you can have the best and fullest experience in the best game ever made?

I'm running everything on maximum. ie. high texture, details and even 6x anti-aliasing mode and reflect all for water.

The graphics is NOT half of the game man. I'm gonna get it and play it on mediocre graphics (Radeon 9200 card) and it'll still be awesome. It's the gameplay that counts. I mean, Space Invaders. The graphics suck, but it's still an all-time classic. Yeah, good graphics in a game are a very nice touch, but a game could have awesome graphics, but the storyline and gameplay might suck. The gameplay in the game itself is what really makes games great....

my specs are ...
radeon 9800-xt 256 mb
2 gig of ram
3.6 ghz running(thats when its not overclocked, it can get up to 4.2)

and liquid snake; games like space invaders, tetris, etc all have bad graphics and are classics, but they werent made in the current era, where we have the technology to create unreal and human like skins. okay, maybe the graphics are a fourth or a third of half-life, but they are a huge part. thats what was so revolutionary about this game; the characters actually looked, talked and walked like real people. The debree in the streets on city 17 actually looked just like the wreckage in iraq or somewhere. your going to enjoy the game with those mediocre graphics, but you cant enjoy it to its fullest; and how it was meant to be played.

True. I'm just saying, you made it sound like the game wasn't worth buying if you had a rubbish graphics card. But what you're saying now, I agree.

@cHilli Are the graphics still good if you've got DX 9 cHilli? Because I've got DX 9 on my card so the graphics should still be ok yeah? They're fairly good on other games but not as good as they could be.

Yep and It cost around $750-$775 for the entire thing, not including moniter.
Go employee discount!

Okay, here are just some tips to get your HL2 running at the best speed and maximum capabilities; go to your .cfg (base dir) or .ini and look for "cachemegs="
and basically add a zero to the end of that(This also works with Doom3, change "cachemegs=20" to 256). And here's a way to put all the strain on your Ram;(for those with 1 gig or more) change the AGP Aperture in the BIOS from 64MB to 128MB. It will help.

All this does is allocate system memory towards the AGP card when the application uses all your video memory. My friend definitely noticed the difference and can now run on Ultra High graphics with my Radeon 9500 PRO ( - 128MB) in Doom3 and Half-life2.

And if all that fails, go download Omega Drivers
