need help with sonic 3

this is gona sound ridiculous but i can't seem to get past level 4 (carnival nights), stage 2. i keep getting stuck in this place where i think ur supposed to push the drum down by jumping on it but i can't get it past a certain point. how do i get by this level part of the level so i can get to the boss??

i found out you need to push up when the barrel goes up and down when it goes down and then jump off when it gets low enough.

im so surprised to see people are still playing the classic sonic games! i thought i was the only one! i have only just discovered this website as i have been stuck on that drum bit, and never have figured it out. thanks for the advice!
