Teh PC is obviously the home of FPS gaming, and with online gaming FPS is just the most pwnage thing ever, but whats the best out there and why?

consider; gameplay, difficulty, lifespan, playablilty, enjoyment etc

Half-Life 1/2 And Counterstrike Source

Why?

gameplay: The story is the best, leaves you with many questions, making you want more!
Difficulty: The settings are pretty descriptive alone, Easy, Hard, Medium. But each provides a Challenge
Lifespan: The life Span is awesome, relistic almost!
Playability: (HL2/1) AMAZING, i could play through millions of times and not get bored!
Enjoyment: GOOD GOD THIS GAME PWNS, you will not be unsatisfied with this game, its THE best, a revolution.

Gah, for me, it's either Deus Ex or Half-Life...

Alright, I'm going with Deus Ex...Ok, for starters, you aren't like set a certain style of gameplay here. If you're a stealthy person, you can sneak up on your enemies and use sneaky methods to accomplish your goals. However, if you're a person who just likes a full-on "kill 'em all, take no prisoners" approach (like me ), then it's feasible to just blow everyone and everything to pieces in order to accomplish your goals...

Hah! The storyline...Dear God, it's one of the most involving, and thought-provoking at times, storyline ever...It's brilliant! The twists, the turns, the characters...Ah, it's sheer excellence. The most involving aspect of it is that you control how the storyline goes. Everything you do leads to a concequence. Whether this concequence is a mere slight reduction in your paycheck, or if your choice has cost people their lives, there is always a concequence...

The lifespan of Deus Ex isn't bad either. Just when you think the game's about to come to its climax, another plot twist appears, and the game continues...Also, when you've beaten the game, you'll want to play it again. Why? To simply see the concequences of other choices you make in the game. Regretted a choice you made before? Play the game again and see what happens if you make another decision...

I believe Deus Ex is the best FPS because:

~It's the most involving FPS out there.
~You choose your character's fate.
~A choice of stealth or assault, so it suits different people's tastes.
~Excellent storyline.
~Heh, you'll find it super-cheap in the shops now...

Yeah, I know this won't stand up to the wave of members that shall be screaming "HALF-LIFE 2!" at the top of their lungs, but I havn't played it, so Deus Ex shall have to be my choice.

Im also going with Half-Life 2.
Gameplay; the most satisfying game ive played. The sound, atmosphere is perfect. Intense gameplay is common, the fact that almost all things react properly to the laws of physics means there aint much places to hide. Different guns and different approaches to the game are great, the vehicles are a nice touch and no one will ever forget the helicopter chase

difficulty; the hard sadly doesnt have much change on the AI, but its still pretty hard, a good balance is still there between the levels. also if you pwn you can download the great mod HL2: Substance, which makes it very challenging for even the best.

lifespan; you'll get alot out of the initial game which is really great, but the fact remains that with all the downloadable content and mods it simply isnt going to ever die. With 100's of mods in production and a small few finished, the next 8 months will see all the first mods that were being made released so it's gonna be like christmas people.

playability; easy to pick up and play, it guides you for a very small bit then you are dumped into the warzone which is what we want.

enjoyment; never got more enjoyment from any other game ive played. It's just polished to perfection

Easily the Half Life and Counterstrike series For reasons that are mostly shown above! ~ And that i can't be bothered to type any longer! Chow!
