_-*PS3 Release Date: November 2006*-_

News: Confirmed for November in Japan. In America... we still really don't know. On the eve of a big PS3 announcement in Japan comes official word from via the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper: the PlayStation 3 has been delayed until November.

In the article Sony pinned the delay on problems with finalizing the copy protection scheme of the Blu-Ray drive. It's also important to note that the November date is currently only confirmed for Japan. If Sony follows the release schedule of their previous consoles we in America should see the PS3 sometime in Early 2007.

News comes from another site I happen to trust but there source was from a site called 1 up so dunno how offical this actualy is but I do know there is a scee event goin on at the moment.....

So that means no more renting games, buying pre-owned games, or even lending them to friends? And now Sony won't get that holiday rush like Microsoft did this year.

PS3 for all: November 2006

@Morsn: Read my 2nd post you tool, COPIED games not pre owned!!!! *sigh*

Anyway, seems the news has it the fan now,

Sony boss Ken Kutaragi has cleared up the on-going speculation surrounding Sony’s PS3 launchdate, surprising and delighting the trade by revealing that the machine will launch in all territories in November.

Speaking at the Playstation business briefing in Tokyo, Kutaragi also confirmed that Sony intends to ship six million units by the end of the year. Final dev kits are scheduled to arrive in June, coinciding with the beginning of manufacturing.

A host of other details were also unveiled. PS3 will be supported with a free online service from day one, and the console will come bundled with a 60GB hard drive. PS3 will also be 100 per cent compatible with all PS2 and PSOne titles.

In other news, several PSP announcements were also made, including a PSOne digital download service, allowing users to download a selection of PSOne back-catalogue titles, an Eye Toy attachment, video chat software and a GPS receiver.

Sony confirms delay for next-gen console, says it will support an Xbox Live-like online gaming service; console will require a 60GB Linux HDD

TOKYO--Today at the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutagari made it official--the PlayStation 3 has been delayed. The news confirmed widely circulated Japanese newspaper reports, which said that the delay was due to copyright-protection problems with the next-generation console's Blu-ray drive. For his part, Kutaragi would only say the delay was due to "Blu-ray spec finalization."

Kutaragi told the crowd at the event that the PS3 would now launch in November 2006 worldwide. That dispelled fears that the console would make it to Japan in time by the fall, but would miss the all-important holiday shopping season in the US and Europe. In fact, Kutaragi explicitly told the crowd of game retailers and journalists present that the PS3 would arrive before Thanksgiving in all territories.

Besides the delay, Kutaragi also made official another widely reported aspect of the PS3. He said that Sony is indeed preparing an Xbox Live-like online gaming service for the console, which would be called the "PlayStation Network Platform." Though he was short on specifics, the executive did say that currently Sony planned the service to be "free."

While the simultaneous tri-territory PS3 scheme may sound much like Microsoft's international launch of the Xbox 360, Sony plans to avoid the shortages that befell its competitor. Kutaragi said that the company plans on producing at least one million units of the console each month in order to keep the supply channel full. He said the goal was to ship 6 million PS3s worldwide by March 2007.

The SCE president also told the crowd that the PS3 would use a 60GB 2.5" hard disc drive (HDD). A slide show during the presentation said the HDD would will be loaded with the Linux operating system versus Microsoft's Windows OS. The show also said it could be used as a "home server" and be directly connected to the Internet, and be full "upgradeable."

Kutaragi also made it clear that the hard drive will be necessary to play games--Sony is telling developers to make games assuming every PS3 has a hard drive installed. "We view the Hard Drive to be mandatory for the PS3," he said. "Rather than have developers create games for the PS3 with or without the HDD, we will be asking them to develop games as though all PS3s have the HDD installed."

However, Kutaragi revealed that Sony had not decided whether or not the PlayStation 3 would come with the hard-drive pre-installed. "We might end up installing it in all PS3s, though that depends on the market," he said. This raises the possibility that the PS3 could be sold without a piece of hardware needed to play PS3 games--in effect forcing consumers to buy a peripheral for basic functionality.

Kutaragi also said that PS3 games would be released only on Blu-ray discs, as DVDs have become too easy for software pirates to duplicate. The high-capacity format is capable of storing around 50GB on a single disc. Sony reps confirmed the PS3 will still play DVDs and CDs, as well as PS2 and PSone discs, as previously announced.

^ Dont expect me to reply to anyone that has not read a word of that, some solid and good info there.... christmas present list:

PS3 + Games it is then

More info.

Blu-Ray really is the PS3's secret weapon as all games will come on BD-ROM discs, which will feature "a maximum storage capacity of 50 GB and robust security". Those security features were also the reason the PS3 was pushed back from its original "Spring 2006" release date.

If that weren't enough storage space, a 60 GB, upgradeable hard drive will also be included with every system.

Sony went on to confirm that the PS3 will have 100% backwards compatibility with all PS2 and PSone titles. It will also take a page from the Xbox 360 and upscale those classic titles to high definition resolutions.

oh and the PS3 "live" will be like the Xbox Live system on the 360..... of course that could change by E3.

Yet more PS3 news

PlayStation 3 will be released worldwide in early November, it will be 100% backwards compatible with PS2 and PSone games and will feature an online service - that's the big news, straight-from-the-horse's-mouth from a PlayStation briefing in Tokyo today.

Sony head honcho Ken Kutaragi also stated that PS3 will require a 60GB hard disk drive, although no details of whether the storage device will come bundled with the console as standard have been confirmed as yet.

For its online service, Sony revealed only a few details, namely that it would feature lobby matchmaking and voice chat, as well as offering downloadable content. It did announce, however, that that basic service would be free of charge.

PS3 will have have a setup similar to Ninty with a download service for PSone and PS2 games apparently. Backwards compatiblity problems anyone?

In terms of availability, Sony plans to supply one million PS3 per month from the November launch, with six million machines promised by March 2007. No announcement has been made as to how much the console and games will actually cost.

Sony will apparently expose PlayStation 3's final details to the world some time soon with a confirmed release date, launch price So watch this thread Black, white and Sliver PS3's, which colour do I want *hmmmm* I want a price tag now! That all we need know for now really.

I've been doing some searching.. I've seen the price tag of $500.00 (Amercian money.). I'm gonna go with $400.00 - $500.00 (American money.) price tag. I think I'm gonna get the White or Silver PS3 though... (You know, you could've put this is the "Next Generation Console War" thread. Not that it matters or anything.)
