photoshop: gold or silver text

the amount of times i have spent looking for a tutorial for text to look like gold or silver with using just the blending options is amazing, and after failing or giving up most of the time, i decided to write one that i randomly came up with when trying to get one right, so that not only will you people hopefully get helped with it if needed, but i would also know where to look for one if i need one again >.<

open up some sized thingy. it should be big enough to hold some text. for this, i am using 800*300 (why, i am not sure.. sounds neat)

use the paintbucket tool and make the background layer black. switch the color to white and use the text tool to type something. i am using 'Insamija'..



and there! youre done!

aight then, step two. double click on the layer in the layers window, or click on the little black and white 'f' thing near the layer.

put in these:

outer glow:


color being: ffcc00

bevel and emboss:

the depth depends on the size of the image, so just mess around with it until it looks right to you.

gradient overlay:


colors: ffcc00 - e8ce68 - ffcc00



there're.. a golden thingy!

to turn it silver, click on the 'create new adjustment layer' icon (one right of the one with the same sort of design as the japanese flag) and go to 'hue/saturation'

set the saturation down to minimum, click ok. the image should be black and white now.

now, click on the little icon again (same one as before) and go to 'levels'
play around with them until they look good.. i used these settings:


and there ya should have it =D

the gradient, i believe.. you have to put in three different color things, the two side color things being the same, brighter color, and the other color being a slightly more yellow gray thing
