Computer Help

Okay, I've got a Compaq Presario S5600NX and the fan on it is making loud grinding-ish sounds. The fan spins fine, and I can feel air coming from it, but it makes loud sounds and I'm not sure if it's overheating or what. It's really annoying, and it takes me like 30-40 times of turning the computer on and off for it to boot up without making sounds. It's fine for a few hours, but then the fan starts making noises again, so I turn the computer off just to be safe. Is there something wrong with my fan? What should I do? (Note: There is an aftermarket power source and fan on the computer, but it's not the one making the noise. It's the original fan.)

We have a Compaq Presario laptop as well. I had a power source (PSU) fail as well, didn't get an after market one tho as they were all around the £80 and in the end phoned compaq who directed me to there parts supplier site that just happened to be HP (sister company to compaq) the PSU cost me a total of about £37... much cheaper.

Anyway. This fan problem you speak off I've not heard of it before. Either take the fan out and clean it up and refit it or take it to a small computer shop and let them take a look at it. Also try google?

Well the fan could have failed a bit and getting a new one for $5 might fix the problem. Either that or depending on what kind of fan it is you might want to just lube it up a bit.

The problem seems to have cleared itself up. The fan will work normal, make noise for about 45min. to an hour, suddenly stop making noise, and start again later and it keeps going on and off. I just pretty much ignore it now as my computer seems to work fine.

I have a few problems with my speakers now, but I don't really know what's up with those yet, (I'm never in the room when it happens. My parents are...) so when I see what's going on, i'll post it up.
