I do know how to buy furniture. As for assets, I'm not sure if they appear as you buy furniture or not. Anyway, to buy furniture, you have to use the phone in the manor that you got from Bella. You should have an option that says "Buy Furniture." Select it and press X. This will open the Buy Mode Catalog, which should allow you to buy anything that is in your budget.
