The red lights are on, all the cars on the grid are revving and your car is hot and heavy on fuel, the green light appears, your heart drops and you speed off from your grid position, on the first corner a car has lost control so you and about five other cars dive out of the way, unfortunately you clipped the car and sustained mild damage, after ordering a pit stop and dribbling back to your pit box you complete what looks like a brilliant stop and fly away... From the moment you sit down on your computer with Rfactor ready to go, until you shut down the game you will be amazed at how much of a magnificent game ISI (Image Space Incorporated) has brought us.
rFactor is considered by many as THE racing simulator of today, no matter how skilled you are, you will love this game! From Formula 1 to Go Karts, this game has the lot. However there is one difference in this mighty game; you cannot buy it from the store.

One of the major advantages of rFactor is that you can jump straight from your average FPS or RTS or any other game and race your heart out requiring no skill at all, all you have to do is turn on a few of the driver aids and you will be winning races in no time, also as you gain skill in the game you can slowly turn down or even turn off the driving aids and really show your opponents what you are made of. Sure this is all fun and games for the amateurs but ISI have definitely not forgotten those of us who want to get into the car of choice and burn some serious rubber, by turning off most or all of the driver aids you can show your real skill, it is a tough challenge to even make it to the end of the race but an all so great feeling when you pass that chequered flag and even more so if you are on the podium!

One very important feature in motorsport games is compatibility with computer steering wheels, and luckily rFactor allows a very wide range of steering wheels to be used so that you can feel even more like you are a part of the game, with the use of say a Logitech Momo steering wheel you can almost imagine that you are in a serious race.
A personal favourite part of rFactor is the sound of the car engines, memories of the first lap of Nurburgring that I completed in the 2005 BMW William F1 are very fond indeed, you really do have to find out for yourself, no outside opinion or video will ever be able to show you the true brilliance of this game. Not to be forgotten is the superb modelling of the cars, each car is extremely realistic, you could almost swear on some of the better looking tracks that you are racing in an actual race, at a very small fraction of the cost! Jump in.
One of my personal favoured things about rFactor is the difficulty that if you put one wheel out of line you have ruined that corner and possibly your race depending on where the wall is, with realistic damage and realistic pitting there is not much more you can ask for in a racing simulator.

The major thing about rFactor is the fact that you have to download it and purchase it online, instead of the conventional way of buying from a gaming store. This has its advantages and disadvantages, you don’t need to insert a disk every time you want to play, but if you want to install on another PC you have to re download or burn it to a disk. One other big difference about rFactor is that the base game only comes with a few types of cars, including the 2005 BMW F1, Kodi Rayzor, Howston Hammer and H6 just to name a bunch. This is however not the limit to the game as ISI have delivered such a superb modification support which has allowed for hundreds of mods to be released including Formula One 2005, V8Factor, Formula One 1979, Eurocup Megane, PCC05 to name some of the favoured among the community.

Of course no racing simulator is complete without the tracks to race on and you can be assured that rFactor has almost every track that you could ever hope for, from Montreal to Essington Park and Nurburgring, even many of the smaller local tracks. The original download of rFactor comes with some of the best and world leading circuits, including many from the Formula 1 track circuit such as Montreal, Nurburgring, Barcelona and Silverstone. All of the original tracks are extremely well modelled on the real life tracks, every corner is exactly the same as the corner of the actual track, and this ensures that if you make a mistake in game it will look exactly the same as your favourite motorsport star. Of course as the rest of the game, most of the tracks either have available ‘add ons’ to download or you can download complete tracks from Nordschleife to the old Adelaide Formula One circuit.
The possibilities of this game are endless; the only real way of getting a good review of this game is to play it for yourself, possibly the best racing simulator game ever created, this game is not one of those games that you can miss. A must play game.

rFactor: The Mods

Formula 1 2005 - CTDP.

F1-05, in Sporks mind the best mod to date. This mod painstakingly recreates the 2005 F1 season. With livery changes accurate to the 2005 season, like Red Bull racing's Star Wars Episode 3 paint job at Monaco, to Ferrari's black nosed cars at Bahrain to honour Pope John Paul II's Death. Nothing is left out. Sounds are also impressive. Cars sound like they should, with V10 engines screaming past at 200mph sounds just like the real cars.

V8Factor Mod - ORSM.

The 2006 Australian V8 Supercar season, fully recreated in this mod. With sinks accurate to what the real drivers used. Sounds are great, with a beefy V8 sounding just like they do. Models are accurate too. Along with the cars comes a track, Bathurst. Fully detailed by ORSM's modders to look just like it does in real life.

Formula 1 1979 - Grand Prix Classics.

What a mod. When the demo was released, lots of people said this will be a mod to remember. From the Ferrari 312T4 that Gilles Villenueve drove to the Wolf-Ford James Hunt drove in his last ever F1 Season. All look like their real life counterparts. Sounds are pretty goood to go by too, with the V12 engines sounding as they did back in 1979 (From what ive heard in videos). Aswell as cars, tracks come in this pack too. With places like Kyalami where in 1977, Tom Pryce lost his life in one of F1's most Bizzare accidents, to Dijon where Gilles Villenueve and René Arnoux had one of F1's most memorable battles. Sadly not all the tracks are in this mod, but Grand Prix Classics plan to release more in the future.

Megane Trophy Eurocup 2005 - RSDG.

I see ya baby, shakin that ass. Thats what you get when you bring Renaults "oddly" styled Meganes to rFactor. This mod recreates the 2005 Eurocup Megane Trophy with amazing detail. With skins that look fabulous to sound that sounds like a real Megane Trophy car. This mod was also the first into the www.rfactorcentral.com Hall Of Fame. This mod ensures enjoyment whenever you take these cars for a spin.

Porsche Carrera Cup 2005 - GSMF.

The PCC05 mod was one of the first for rfactor. Very popular at release. All the cars are skinned to incredible detail to simulate all the drivers of the PCC Germany series. The cars sound like real Porsches, with their Boxer engines slung all the way at the back. Many other extensions for this mod exist so you can race against drivers from the Great British or Australian PCC series. Truly a great mod.

Thats it for Lambo & Spork's rFactor review. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as we did writing it.
