I got a virus

Ok Me being the dumass I am decided to dl the GTA IV soundtrack off of Frostwire and apparently it was " Give Nova an Annoying Virus Day". So now I ahve this virus that keeps opening Frostwire and trying to get me into the chat. it also tries to open Limewire but I dont have that on my comp. Anyways I dont have anti-virus and I have Windows Defender, it finds the problem, resolves it but it keeps coming back. Anyone know a good free anti virus software? Or do you have any help to offer me?

AVG Free is the free anti-virus of choice these days: http://free.grisoft.com/
There is also various online scanners, these however dont get rid (at least not that im aware of)

Also when this virus took over it put this clickable backround and I couldnt get rid of it because I cant change my desktop backround anymore since this happened. I just went on google and put this random picture. But anyways thanks RG, Ill post if this helped at all.

AVG Free edition 8.0 also handles Spyware as well now. Its the only anti-virus and spyware protection I have now.

took 17 hours but its all gone. Heres the full report I got

The only virus scanner that's decent is NOD32, it's none of that bull**** programs that won't do **** until it's too late and you have to format anyway. It doesn't totally **** up your PC speed, it's hardly noticeable.

It's not perfect, because the best virus scanner is you yourself. I refrain from using any virus scanners, I just avoid trouble/viruses using multiple tricks. But if something has to get the job done, it's NOD32

Do you work for them Cid? You sound like an advertisement! The top free antivirus software used is AVG and Clamwin, I've heard good things about both. I'm lucky enough to not have to worry about viruses because I use linux.

I still face an onlslaught of attacks daily. And now while surfing the web, my browser will close randomly. I thought it was just Firefox but I uninstalled it and installed Opera and I still get the same crap. For example I cant look at the comments page of Digg.

I was hoping that wouldnt happen. I have alot of songs and it was a pain getting them in the first place. Ill give it a few days.

If you do buy a new computer, make sure to get a decent anti virus with it, you can probably get something knocked off it.

If you get one from PC World, you can have Norton 360 half price at only £30 when bought with any PC or Laptop.

And I strongly recommend it because I've had this laptop 6 months now and it's picked up every virus and deleted it.
