Down with your resonators, up with mine
Right, so if it's an enemy portal, then you are going to need to tear down the resonators, but the first thing you should do is take a good long look at the resonators in place. What level are you, what level equipment do you have, and what level are the resonators? Level one resonators can be torn apart easily, but if you're like level three and looking at level eight resonators, this isn't going to go down easily. Sure, you can still try, but it might not be worth your time. Remember, when using offensive weapons on resonators, hold down the fire button for a second to watch a closing circle. Let go when it's smallest to do big damage. Once you've got portals controlled and control fields in place, you don't want them falling to anyone who happens to walk past with some weaponry, right? Right. That's why you will also be picking up Portal Shields, Force Amps and Heat Sinks. You can install these into portals to make them far more formidable. Same goes for higher level resonators, but you might not have immediate access to those, and you can only place four resonators of a certain level at any one portal - so you'll need a variety of ways to defend your portals. Linking up, making friends
Now that you've captured a bunch of portals it's time to link them up and secure some control fields. Control fields are created by linking at least three portals in a triangular shape. This will prevent the enemy team from linking portals across your control fields, while you will be able to earn more AP than usual. But where's best to install control fields? What dictates which portals can be linked to which other portals? Well, that's what the chat function in the Comms menu is for! Or you can just be like me and install links at whichever portals you possibly can. When you see a portal on your map you first need to figure out whether you can capture, attack or if it's just free already. White portals have no resonators placed, so you can just walk up and install your resonators and take control. Green or blue, though, mean a team owns it. If it's your team, you can recharge the resonators, place more, or link the portal to another. If it's not your team though, that's where the fight starts. You will be able to hack and gain items from any portal, though.
